Role Overview

The Faith and Mission Coordinator supports the spiritual life of Catholic Charities staff through pastoral presence, prayer leadership, reflection, remembrance, and seasonal faith formation. This part-time role is dedicated to nurturing staff connection to Catholic Charities' Catholic identity, mission, and values by creating meaningful opportunities for prayer and spiritual reflection, supporting compassionate responses during moments of loss, and helping staff engage the organization's mission through the lens of faith.

*This is a Part-Time hybrid position working approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Job Responsibilities

Weekly Mass: Prepare welcome remarks and Prayers of the Faithful for onsite Mass twice each week, ensuring language is prayerful, inclusive, liturgically appropriate, and responsive to the spiritual needs of staff and the mission of Catholic Charities. 5 hours weekly average
Monthly Reflection: Develop and lead a monthly 30-minute virtual prayer and reflection service for staff, including selecting themes, Scripture or spiritual readings, prayers, reflections, and simple participatory elements that invite staff into stillness, hope, gratitude, and mission-centered reflection. 2.5 hours weekly average
Seasonal Liturgies: Coordinate and lead staff faith experiences during Advent and Lent, including primarily virtual opportunities for prayer, reflection, and spiritual connection that culminate in an onsite service and luncheon; manage related planning details and collaborate with appropriate colleagues while maintaining primary focus on the pastoral and spiritual experience. 3 hours weekly average (increased time during Advent and Lent)
Staff Bereavement: Support the staff bereavement protocol by coordinating timely, compassionate, and consistent pastoral responses when staff experience the loss of a loved one, partnering with appropriate internal stakeholders to ensure care is offered with confidentiality, sensitivity, and respect. 2.5 hours weekly average (increased time during crisis or high need)
Staff Connection and Pastoral Presence: Offer a consistent, caring presence to staff through thoughtful attentive listening and meaningful opportunities for connection, helping employees feel supported and engaged with Catholic Charities' purpose, values, Catholic identity, and spiritual life. 2 hours weekly average

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum

Bachelor's degree in theology, ministry, pastoral studies, spirituality, religious studies, social work, humanities, or a related field, or 1-3 years of experience.
Demonstrated ability to provide pastoral presence and lead prayerful, reflective experiences for diverse staff audiences
Strong understanding of Catholic tradition, liturgical seasons,
Catholic social teaching, and the spiritual dimensions of nonprofit service; comfort preparing prayers, reflections, and faith-centered remarks; ability to hold sensitive information with care and confidentiality
Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and organizational skills.

Preferred

Bilingual ability, especially Spanish, is a plus.
Coursework, certificate, or graduate study in theology, ministry, spirituality, pastoral care, chaplaincy, spiritual direction, or a related field.
Experience in ministry, pastoral care, spiritual formation, mission integration, retreat or reflection facilitation, or faith-based nonprofit service
Familiarity with the mission and structure of Catholic Charities and the Archdiocese of Chicago
