PRN RN - Emergency Department

South Pointe Hospital’s 22-bed Emergency Department provides 24/7 emergency services, ranging from minor injuries to critical and resuscitative care, to more than 35,000 patients of all ages each year. Known for their collaborative, team-based approach, this department strives to be the best place to receive care and is focused on providing an environment for caregivers to learn and become experts in their field. As an RN on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care by interacting directly with patients, families, and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and supply healthcare information as needed. This position requires a caregiver who is empathetic, understanding and nurturing to ensure quality patient care and effective life-saving treatment. 

A PRN caregiver in this position works variable days/nights from 7:00AM – 7:30PM or 7:00PM – 7:30AM. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

• Provide direct nursing care. 

• Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. 

• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  

• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 

• Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN Program)   

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)   

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire 

• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department 

• External candidates: two years of recent related nursing experience   

• Internal candidates with less than two years of experience, but are post-orientation/90-day probationary period, may be considered with CNO level review and approval  

• Licensed military RN experience will be considered   

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
