Help shape progressive public policy in Manitoba for the working class 

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives – Manitoba (CCPA MB) is seeking an outstanding researcher to become the next Errol Black Chair in Labour Issues—one of Manitoba's leading public policy research positions.

CCPA MB is an independent, non-partisan charitable research institute dedicated to advancing social, economic, and environmental justice. Our research informs public debate, influences decision-makers, and helps build a more equitable Manitoba.

As the Errol Black Chair, you will investigate the issues that matter most to workers and communities, produce influential research, engage with the media, collaborate with labour and community organizations, and help shape public policy across Manitoba and Canada.

What you'll do

  • Lead original research on labour issues and public policy, including topics such as workers' rights, taxation, public services, economic inequality, climate policy, government budgets, and public ownership.
  • Author reports, policy briefs, opinion pieces, blogs, and other accessible research products.
  • Represent CCPA MB as a respected public voice through media interviews, public presentations, conferences, and community events.
  • Work with the Director to respond to emerging policy issues and contribute to the organization's strategic direction.
  • Mentor student researchers and contribute to fundraising and outreach initiatives.

We're looking for someone who has

  • A graduate degree in political economy, economics, politics or another relevant discipline.
  • Strong research, analytical, and quantitative skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to make complex ideas accessible.
  • Experience in public policy, labour issues, political economy, or applied research.
  • Confidence speaking with media and public audiences.
  • A demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and environmental justice.

Salary and benefits

This unionized position (UNIFOR Local 567) offers a salary of $88,800–$96,700, an excellent pension and benefits package, and a hybrid work arrangement (three days in the Winnipeg office, two days remote).
