Painter / Product Trainer

Job Title: Painter / Product Trainer Supervisor/Manager Title: Area Sales Manager Department: Sales / Marketing Location: Nairobi / Mombasa / Assigned Territory Job Summary The Painter / Product Trainer is responsible for building product knowledge, application skills and product preference among painters, contractors, applicators, dealers and counter staff. The role focuses on practical product training, demonstrations, site support and demand-generation activities that drive product adoption, improve application quality and support secondary sales. Role & Responsibilities · Conduct regular painter training programs at dealer outlets, project sites and other approved locations. · Conduct practical product demonstrations covering surface preparation, application methods, tools, coverage and finishing techniques. · Train painters, contractors, applicators, dealers and counter staff on INS Africa Coatings products, new products and recommended applications. · Give special focus to new products, premium products, difficult finishes and products requiring specific application techniques. · Demonstrate and guide users on the correct use of conventional and automated painting tools/equipment, where applicable. · Conduct product demonstrations, application trials and mock-ups at sites/projects to support product conversion and generate demand. · Make regular market visits with Sales Representatives/ASMs to visit dealers, painters, contractors and projects and support product promotion. · Guide dealers and counter staff on products that are not adequately stocked, promoted or sold, with the objective of increasing product movement. · Support Sales Representatives during dealer visits, painter meets, product launches, exhibitions and other demand-generation activities. · Build and maintain strong relationships with painters, contractors, applicators, dealers and other key influencers to increase product preference and usage. · Identify new painter/contractor contacts, training opportunities, sites and projects and share relevant leads with the Sales team for follow-up. · Organize small painter/contractor meetings and product awareness sessions in coordination with the Sales team. · Identify product and application knowledge gaps in the market and organize targeted training or demonstrations to address them. · Provide on-site application guidance and troubleshoot basic product/application issues; escalate technical complaints to the relevant department. · Support the Sales team in explaining product benefits, applications and usage to dealers, counter staff, painters and contractors. · Maintain an updated database of trained painters/contractors and training attendees, where required, and support regular communication and engagement. · Maintain accurate records of training, attendees, dealer visits, demonstrations, site visits, leads and demand-generation activities. · Prepare weekly and monthly reports on training activities, market visits, product demonstrations, leads generated and other assigned activities. · Work closely with Sales & Marketing, Technical and other departments to achieve company objectives. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) · Number and quality of painter/product training programs conducted. · Number of painters, contractors, dealers and counter staff trained and actively engaged. · Number of product demonstrations, application trials and site demonstrations completed. · New product adoption and product conversions are supported through training and demonstrations. · Demand-generation leads, site/project opportunities and business referrals generated. · Improvement in application quality and reduction of avoidable product/application complaints. · Contribution to increased product preference, product movement and secondary sales. · Quality and timeliness of activity reports and training records. Requirements Academic & Professional Qualifications · Diploma or Certificate in Paint Technology, Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Chemistry or a related field. · Strong practical knowledge of paint applications, surface preparation, tools and finishing techniques. · Good communication and interpersonal skills. Work Experience · 2–3 years of practical painting/application experience, preferably in paints, coatings, construction chemicals, building materials or related industry. · Practical knowledge of conventional and automated painting tools/equipment and their correct use. · Previous experience in painter training, product demonstrations or technical/customer support will be an added advantage. Additional Skills · Good product presentation, training and practical demonstration skills. · Ability to communicate effectively with painters, contractors, dealers, counter staff and sales teams. · Customer-focused, energetic, self-motivated and target-oriented. · Good relationship-building, market coverage and follow-up skills. · Ability to simplify product/application information for different audiences. · Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel). · Fluency in English and Kiswahili; additional regional languages will be an advantage. · Ability to work independently and as part of a sales team. · Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned territory. · Valid driving licence will be an added advantage.
