Staff Product Designer
Quick Summary
agentic and hands-on discovery, problem definition, experience architecture, spec authorship, and building through to launch. Build what you design.
Millions of people across the country are navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and eating disorders, but too often, they’re met with barriers to care. From limited local options and long wait times to treatment that lacks personalization, behavioral healthcare can leave people feeling unseen and unsupported.
Charlie Health exists to change that. Our mission is to connect the world to life-saving behavioral health treatment. We deliver personalized, virtual care rooted in connection—between clients and clinicians, care teams, loved ones, and the communities that support them. By focusing on people with complex needs, we’re expanding access to meaningful care and driving better outcomes from the comfort of home.
As a rapidly growing organization, we're reaching more communities every day and building a team that’s redefining what behavioral health treatment can look like. If you're ready to use your skills to drive lasting change and help more people access the care they deserve, we’d love to meet you.
About the Role
~1 min readAt Charlie Health, the Provider Experience Group is responsible for delivering a connected system of tools for our therapists, group facilitators, and operational teams to deliver life-saving care, everyday. We are looking for a Staff Product Designer to own not just this system, but the seams between personas, products, and operations, to deliver a cohesive and coherent experience.
You will operate as a strategist, leading with vision, co-creating with partners across EPD and Clinical. As an experience architect, you will work to translate vision into a cohesive and scalable experience. As a discovery expert, you will develop a deep, sophisticated understanding of our users to deliver high-confidence, insight driven solutions. And you know what good looks like, from a craft, judgement, and operational perspective, and work to encode this into our systems.
The people who thrive here are relentlessly curious, energized by how fast the ground is moving, crave ownership and autonomy to operate with both a high level of craft and vision-first, and operate with a true growth mindset, hungry to take on bigger challenges.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Own the seams of experience across the full Provider domain, spanning therapists, group facilitators, and clinical operations, and connect them into one coherent experience.
- →Advocate for and evolve a Provider Experience vision; drive alignment across engineering, product, clinical, and operations leadership, often without formal authority.
- →Lead the process end to end: agentic and hands-on discovery, problem definition, experience architecture, spec authorship, and building through to launch.
- →Build what you design. Carry work through our AI-native pipeline (prototyping, hardening, component management, spec-authorship, and swarm loops) into working, production-quality experiences.
- →Exercise the judgment the pipeline can't: define the problems worth solving, set the bar for quality, and know when to build with AI and when to step off it.
- →Lead research to uncover needs, workflow realities, and product opportunities in a clinically regulated, operations-heavy environment.
- →Create leverage for the team via reusable patterns, skills, tools, and standards that other designers build on and that measurably raise team velocity and quality.
- →Refine problem statements for others; mentor designers and raise the craft and judgment bar across the team through radically candid feedback.
- →Navigate extreme constraints gracefully (ambitious timelines, operational stakeholders, incomplete information) and still produce vision-level work.
- →Contribute to our internal design practices, ways of working, and team culture as we continue to evolve what an AI-native design org looks like.
Requirements
~2 min read- 7+ years of Product Design experience for tech/software products, preferably in Health Tech, Telehealth, or complex operational/workflow domains.
- A track record of owning large, ambiguous, multi-persona problem spaces, and connecting experiences across products and surfaces rather than within a single one.
- You've envisioned and delivered 0→1 experiences, and you can show how your vision work shaped organizational decisions, not just screens.
- You're a systems thinker with demonstrated experience architecture skills, designing the structure of an experience, not just its surfaces.
- You're an AI-native builder, fluent working with AI tools across research, prototyping, and production.
- You ship working prototypes or code as a primary design output. Tool fluency is our baseline; what we're hiring for is your judgment about when and how to use it.
- Deep research fluency, qualitative and quantitative, with a clear point of view on how insight earns vision the right to lead.
- A strong communicator and storyteller who drives decisions with evidence and creates alignment among skeptical or constrained stakeholders.
- A bias for initiative and ownership; you fill in the blanks in ambiguity and are comfortable making calls with incomplete information.
- Experience contributing to token-based design systems and mentoring designers; you raise the bar for others, not just yourself.
- Curiosity, adaptability, drive, and a growth mindset. You're energized by a practice that is actively reinventing itself.
- This role requires 4 days per week in our NYC office (Flatiron District).
Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience designing for healthcare products, EHRs, or multi-sided platforms
- Front-end development skills (React, TypeScript) or meaningful experience collaborating closely with design technologists
