Job Title: Medical Assistant Laboratory Skills Instructor
Location: Online Services- MUST BE LOCATED IN Houston, Austin or San Antonio
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Teaches assigned number of classes using the prescribed courses of study with established texts and/or prescribed instructional materials.
- →Maintains classroom in good physical order.
- →Responsible and accountable for supervising students in a laboratory and/or clinical setting for respective course(s).
- →Review and order proper medical supplies for laboratory experience
- →Provide hands-on instruction for students via demonstration.
- →Assess learning by evaluating competency with return demonstrations.
- →Sign, date, and provide feedback for each student skills checklist as required
- →Manages simulation scenarios and evaluates student responses.
- →Manage CPR instruction in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines
- Patient communication and human relations
- Phlebotomy (venous, capillary draws and centrifuge)
- ECG and Peak Flow Monitoring
- Suture removal
- Injections (subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular)
- Obtaining vital signs and measurements (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse, pulse oximetry)
- Triage, critical thinking and patient documentation
- Perform point of care testing (HCG, Mono, Strep, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose, Hematocrit)
- Obtain and prepare lab specimens for transport
- Assistance with general and specialized examinations (i.e., gynecological exams)
- CPR (Basic Life Support-Provider)
- Sterile instrument decontamination, wrapping, and sterilization

- Aseptic and Sterile Technique (handwashing, decontamination)
- PPE use, maintenance, and disposal
- Safety, Biohazard waste disposal and sharps management
- Mandated reporting of communicable disease
Qualifications:
- Degree or post-secondary education and relative experience to meet state (TWC) and ABHES accreditation requirements.
- Minimum of 3-5 years practical experience with teaching experience preferred.
- Current certification, registration, and/or licensure as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Doctor (M.D.)
- Current Basic Life Support Provider-Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association
