The Chrysos commitment and mission:

Here at Chrysos we combine science and software to create technology solutions that are changing the global mining industry; both from a productivity and environmental impact perspective.

Just like atoms and machines, we believe that everyone is different and how individuals come together is what makes us successful. Headquartered in Adelaide and with team members based in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, Canada, Chile and North America, Chrysos Corporation’s diverse team of scientists, engineers and industry specialists are coming together to build technologies to provide rapid, accurate and safe ore analysis for the global mining industry.

The company’s flagship technology, PhotonAssay™, steps around centuries-old chemistry-based assay methods to deliver true ‘atom-counting’ analysis for the measurement of gold and other high-value metals. With successful global installations, Chrysos is taking PhotonAssay™ to customers around the world – Chrysos could take you to places that you might not have even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.

About the role:

The Junior Mechatronics Engineer will support the design, development, validation, commissioning, and production release of Chrysos’ PhotonAssay™ Max systems. The role contributes across mechanical, electrical, control, and automation activities, including automated sample handling, safety systems, sample irradiation, and the associated human–machine interfaces.

The role also supports prototype validation and new product development to enable the safe, reliable, and high‑performance deployment of PhotonAssay™ Max systems, supporting Chrysos’ rapidly expanding global fleet.

What you will do:

New Product Development:

  • Contribute to the testing and validation of the PLC control systems and HMI for the Chrysos’ PhotonAssay™
  • Contribute to the design and integration of key sub-systems and prototypes into new generation PhotonAssay™ Max units and supporting products.
  • Prepare and review documentation including data collection and analysis, reporting of findings and preparation of project documents.
  • Support troubleshooting investigations of mechanical, electrical and/or programming issues during prototype testing and validation phases.
  • Provide relevant and specific input to identify opportunities for improvement to existing designs or new products.

Commissioning and Operational Support:

  • Support assembly and commissioning work for new PhotonAssay™ units in the factory and during deployment on site.
  • Work with operational teams servicing deployed units to remotely diagnose and resolve logic faults with fast, robust solutions to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Support the first introduction of new features on to operational units.
  • Use this on-site experience to inform continuous improvements and identify opportunities to develop new features that bring value to operational teams and customers

Who you are:

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in mechatronic, mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in programming and debugging PLC systems within an engineering role.
  • Experience working within an engineering team in the design and/or technical integration of mechanical or electrical systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and reports.
  • Able and willing to travel both interstate and internationally (subject to Australian Government travel restrictions). Note that this role will have significant travel requirements in the initial 12 months throughout Australia, North America and China.

 Desirable

  • Experience implementing PLC based control systems incorporating Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), servo drives, cameras, position sensors, barcode scanners, weighing scales, conveyors, pneumatic and electric actuators, and multi-axis robots.
  • Experience with Siemens PLC and HMI programming within TIA Portal.
  • Experience working with X-ray or radiation technologies, including familiarity with radiation safety and licencing requirements.
  • Experience working in the mining industry or developing products for mining applications; or experience in material or sample handling applications such as laboratory automation, automotive machine design and food packaging.
  • Experience working with local and international design partners in design and fabrication for mechanical components and automation systems
