Requirements

Minimum staffing of four firefighters per engine company
Experience-based pay opportunities for certified firefighters
Firefighter I and II training provided for qualified candidates
Education reimbursement for eligible employees pursuing paramedic licensure
Thirteen paid holidays at 11 hours each, plus one personal day
Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical insurance with the City paying 90% of the premium to include paid vision insurance
Tier 1 retirement benefits for Tier 2 employees through stress-year service credit

Applicants must:

Be at least 18 years of age
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license
Obtain and maintain certification as a Firefighter I and II through the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission within one year of employment
Obtain and maintain an Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS, Emergency Medical Technician–Paramedic license within three years of employment
