Position Summary: Under direction of the Recreation Services this position maintains Rain Master Oasis Irrigation System and controllers or equivalent, establishes schedules for and monitors all park irrigation system to ensure proper functioning, and installs and repairs irrigation systems as needed. Essential Duties: Perform soil moisture content testing; perform or assist in scheduled preventative maintenance and emergency repair of irrigation systems such as water line breaks and broken irrigation heads; troubleshoot central controller and field controller. Establishes, performs, and monitors schedules for mowing, aerifying, top dressing, turf seeding, fertilizing and the application of pre-emergent, post emergent, herbicide, and insecticide. Installs new irrigation systems as needed; assists other staff in Division (i.e. parks, lakes, trails, landscaping, open space, and special events) as needed. Assists with plumbing projects including winterizing and recharging drinking fountains and drip systems. Mandatory overtime for nights, weekends, and special events may be required. May be placed "on-call at times". Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years full-time irrigation repair and maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, sports turf management, and water conservation practices. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements: Must be able to learn and operate a variety of small and large equipment, and possess (or obtain within 6 months of hire) a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License and within one year an Arizona State Applicators license (Turf and Ornamental & Right of Way Categories). Backflow Certification preferred.
