Position Summary:
Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicles and associated equipment both in the shop and in the field for Recreation Services.
Essential Duties:
- Organizes the inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment used by Recreation Services.
- Performs a wide variety of complex duties; completes assigned work orders.
- Helps with pre-trip inspections on vehicles as assigned.
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various vehicles and equipment.
- Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and carts; changes oil; changes filters; checks fluid levels, checks and replaces brakes and pads, as required; checks, rotates, repairs, and replaces tires; inspects vehicles and related systems to ensure performance of air conditioning, electronic, electrical ,and hydraulic systems.
- Performs scheduled tune-ups and preventive maintenance/repairs on all small engine equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and construction equipment (e.g., transmissions, hydraulics, water pumps) with emphasis on hydraulic systems.
- Performs weekly preventative maintenance on mower. (e.g., grease, sharpen and replace blades, adjust deck height)
- Performs diagnostic work in the shop and in the field; picks up/tows vehicles or repairs on site.
- Tests vehicles/equipment after repair; cleans and washes vehicles/equipment before/after maintenance/repair is completed.
- Brazes and welds metals; fabricates parts and equipment attachments as necessary; and works on small engines as necessary.
- Purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
- Keeps a complete set of records for all equipment.
- Oversees the mechanic shop and performs related cleanup duties.
- Regulates employees' use of equipment in the absence of supervisor.
- Performs as backup driver duties during shortage of drivers, and additional services.
- Performs snow clean-up operations throughout City streets, parks, and facilities.
- Assist in the training for new CDL Applicants.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Possess an Arizona driver's license with a clean driving record; Obtain or possess a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) within required time frames if required for job; Obtain or possess a forklift certification within six (6) months of hire. Obtain or possess an Aerial Lift Operator certification within one (1) year of hire.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in the shop or in the field.
- Requires working assigned shifts that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Requires working rotational stand-by assignments and be available to respond to emergency call outs in a timely manner.
- Safely operates required equipment and City vehicle as needed.
- Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates in person and over the telephone.
- Safely performs manual labor for extended periods of time and performs repetitive stooping, bending, and twisting, and lifting 50 pounds frequently without assistance and 51 to a maximum of 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work is performed sometimes under adverse weather conditions, confined space, high traffic areas, exposure to raw sewage, chemicals, rotating equipment, noise, high-medium-low voltage, and other potentially hazardous environments.
- Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
