Veterinary Patient Care/ICU Technician/Assitant

Position Overview: The Veterinary Patient Care/ICU Technician/Assistant will provide advanced clinical care to critically ill or injured patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and other hospital areas. This role requires a highly motivated and skilled individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in emergency and critical care, along with a strong understanding of patient care and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to ICU patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing medical treatments as prescribed.
- Assist veterinarians or emergency technicians in emergency procedures and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques when needed.
- Perform routine patient assessments, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate monitoring.
- Monitor critically ill patients for changes in condition and report findings to veterinarians.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures, including blood draws, catheter placement, and radiographs.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation of treatments, procedures, and medications administered.
- Work collaboratively with veterinary staff to develop and implement care plans for hospitalized patients.
- Ensure a clean environment in the ICU and other treatment areas.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners about their pet’s condition and treatment plan.
Qualifications:
- Veterinary Technician License (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in an ICU, emergency, or specialty veterinary setting is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to handle a wide range of critically ill patients, demonstrating a calm and compassionate demeanor under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic proficiency in medical software systems and record-keeping.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort working with potentially ill and difficult-to-handle animals.
- Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch.
