Staff Front End Engineer

As a Staff Frontend Engineer at CivilGrid, you'll be a foundational member of our engineering team — building the interactive maps, design tools, and visualizations civil engineers and utilities rely on to scope and design critical infrastructure projects. You'll work across the full frontend stack, ship user-facing features on non-traditional surfaces like maps, canvas, and 3D, and mentor engineers as we scale. We're looking for a builder who's energized by hard technical problems and the ability to make an impact.

  Work closely with product leadership and design to implement new concepts

  Design and build user facing features with scalable UI components

  Profile and tune performance across the entire stack to ensure efficient and responsive systems

  Profile and tune performance across the stack to keep the platform fast and responsive, even at the scale of national utility datasets

  Work in React, TypeScript, and Node.js (and pick up geospatial frameworks like Mapbox where needed) to ship core systems that scale with us

  Conduct code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and offer constructive feedback to help grow the team’s technical capabilities

• 6 years of experience working with JavaScript or TypeScript, particularly with React and Node.js (or equivalent frameworks)

• Experience building for non-traditional surfaces - canvas, maps, 3D visualizer etc.

• Start up ready - you’re autonomous, move fast, and take initiative without being asked

• Experience working on a complex B2B Product

• Strong verbal and written communication, able to articulate ideas clearly and collaborate effectively

• A degree in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field (B.S. or M.S.)

• Familiarity with geospatial frameworks (Mapbox, Leaflet or similar, etc.) is a plus
