Junior Fullstack Engineer, Lending (Clasp Finance)
Quick Summary
writing reliable ETL jobs, building observable data flows, and being a first line of defens
Remote (ET & CT time zones only – some travel required)
Clasp is a venture-backed, mission-driven startup transforming access to education and career pathways. We are revolutionizing the way employers attract and retain critical talent and the way colleges and universities support their students through education financing — all while tackling the student debt crisis. (Yep, we think BIG.) We like to think of ourselves as more than a fintech; we're a catalyst for economic mobility.
A Forbes Fintech 50 company, portfolio company of SHRM (Society of Human Resource Management — the largest HR organization out there!) and recipient of "Startup of the Year" by StartUp Boston, Clasp is driven by our commitment to social impact and innovation.
Our work spans two business lines:
Clasp Talent helps healthcare employers attract and retain critical talent by connecting them with diverse candidates and using student loan repayment as a powerful recruiting and retention tool. We meaningfully connect employers, educational institutions, and learners to drive mutual benefit.
Clasp Finance equips colleges and universities with lending technology to launch and operate their own private student loan programs, enabling schools to step in and support their students directly with financial aid. Recent federal financial aid changes are reshaping how institutions think about supporting their students, and Clasp Finance is poised to meet this moment.
Join us on our journey to give power to learners and unlock fulfilling careers that drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
Requirements
~1 min readWe're hiring a Junior Fullstack Software Engineer to join the Clasp Finance engineering team. You'll be working within a small, high-ownership group alongside other engineers and an Engineering Director — building the operational tooling, data pipelines, and product features that power a real lending platform used by colleges and universities across the country. This role is a great fit if you have a few years of professional experience under your belt, you've shipped meaningful features end-to-end, and you're ready to take on more ownership. You don't need deep fintech domain knowledge coming in — but you're hungry for it, and you bring a data-centric mindset and high standards for correctness to everything you touch. You use AI tools deliberately to move faster and think bigger than your experience level alone would allow.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →
Build and maintain features across the Clasp Finance platform — including loan origination workflows, school-facing administrative tools, and servicing and collections functionality — with increasing independence.
- →
Write clean, tested Python and TypeScript/JavaScript code — you'll be expected to write unit tests as a matter of course, not as an afterthought.
- →
Contribute to data pipeline work: writing reliable ETL jobs, building observable data flows, and being a first line of defense for data quality issues.
- →
Use AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) as a genuine force multiplier — generating tests, accelerating refactors, and scaling your effective output.
- →
Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning — you're expected to ask questions, express opinions and express them clearly.
- →
Learn and apply consumer lending regulatory context (TILA, ECOA, fair lending, state licensing) with support from senior engineers — treating compliance as an engineering constraint, not a legal department problem.
- →
Write documentation and ask good questions — two of the most underrated skills in engineering.
0–3 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent through bootcamp, internships, or a strong self-directed project portfolio.
A portfolio of personal or open source projects that demonstrates learning velocity and genuine curiosity.
Solid, working fluency in Python, TypeScript and/or JavaScript — you write clean, readable code in both, handle edge cases proactively, and can navigate a large codebase confidently.
Introductory familiarity with cloud infrastructure or serverless functions (AWS Lambda, GCP Cloud Functions, or equivalent) and an understanding of how production systems behave under real load.
A learner above all — you read documentation, follow engineering blogs, experiment on side projects, and bring what you learn back to your work
AI-native in your workflow — you use AI coding assistants deliberately to accelerate your learning and output. You're developing strong instincts for when to trust AI output and when to verify it.
Exceptionally high attention to detail — in a financial platform, accuracy isn't optional. You notice edge cases, catch data integrity issues, and build systems that make correctness the default path.
Strong communicator — you write clearly in PRs and documentation, communicate blockers early, and can explain a technical decision to a non-engineer without dumbing it down.
Mission-connected — you care about building technology that expands access to education and economic mobility.
Nice to Have
~1 min readAny prior exposure to fintech, payments, banking, or financial services — even adjacent experience counts.

Prior experience working in a startup environment where you've worn multiple hats.
Experience integrating with loan servicers, payment processors, or financial data providers.
Competitive cash and equity compensation
Health benefits (health, dental, & vision)
Student loan repayment benefits
401k matching
Commuter benefits
Flexible PTO policy
Opportunities to grow and perform in a fast-paced environment alongside a stellar team
