Field Network Engineer
Quick Summary
POSITION SUMMARY Constellis is seeking an experienced Field Network Engineer to support the Layered Extended Security Operations (LEXSO™) program.
Constellis is seeking an experienced Field Network Engineer to support the Layered Extended Security Operations (LEXSO™) program. The engineer will work remotely when not supporting field activities but must be prepared to travel frequently to customer sites, test locations, demonstrations, installations, and other LEXSO operational environments. Travel requirements may vary significantly based on deployment schedules and customer needs.
LEXSO is an advanced, sensor-agnostic security technology platform that integrates sensors, communications, edge computing, networking, and automation into a unified operational environment. The platform is designed to integrate existing and new technologies into scalable architectures supporting critical infrastructure, defense, government, and other high-value facilities.
We are looking for a technically strong, hands-on engineer who is equally comfortable configuring a managed switch, troubleshooting a VLAN, installing and testing copper or fiber infrastructure, installing a sensor in the field, configuring a communications link, or working inside a server rack. The successful candidate must be capable of deploying to customer and test locations, working independently or as part of a small technical team, and troubleshooting complex systems under real-world field conditions.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Design, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot IP networks supporting LEXSO systems.
- →Install and configure routers, managed switches, firewalls, wireless systems, VPNs, and other network infrastructure.
- →Establish and maintain connectivity between sensors, servers, edge-compute systems, communications equipment, and the LEXSO platform.
- →Configure and troubleshoot VLANs, subnets, routing, DHCP, DNS, NAT, VPNs, firewall rules, and related network services.
- →Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain copper and fiber-optic network infrastructure used to connect sensors, communications systems, compute infrastructure, and remote field equipment.
- →Work with single-mode and multimode fiber, SFP/SFP+ transceivers, media converters, fiber patch panels, and associated optical networking equipment.
- →Perform fiber troubleshooting using appropriate test equipment and understand common causes of optical-link degradation and failure.
- →Integrate field sensors including IP cameras, radar, LiDAR, unattended ground sensors, UAS/drone systems, counter-UAS systems, environmental sensors, and other IP-connected devices.
- →Install, configure, cable, and troubleshoot server racks, compute nodes, UPS systems, network appliances, patch panels, and associated infrastructure.
- →Support terrestrial, cellular, wireless, microwave, fiber-optic, and satellite communications used to connect distributed LEXSO systems.
- →Perform structured network troubleshooting using packet captures, network analysis tools, device logs, command-line utilities, and vendor diagnostic tools.
- →Diagnose connectivity, latency, packet loss, multicast, bandwidth, addressing, optical-link, power, and physical-layer issues.
- →Conduct site surveys and help develop network, communications, power, fiber, and equipment-placement plans for new deployments.
- →Configure equipment in laboratory and staging environments before field deployment.
- →Perform equipment installation, commissioning, operational testing, troubleshooting, and acceptance activities at customer sites.
- →Document network architectures, IP addressing, VLANs, equipment configurations, rack layouts, fiber and copper cable paths, and field changes.
- →Maintain accurate configuration records and deployment documentation.
- →Coordinate directly with software engineers, DevOps, sensor-integration engineers, field operations personnel, vendors, and customer technical teams.
- →Support demonstrations, operational exercises, system testing, and rapid deployments.
- →Identify field problems, determine root cause, implement corrective actions, and clearly communicate findings to the engineering team.
- →Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting for deployed LEXSO systems between field assignments.
- →Business work hours are Monday-Friday standard core hours, however some extended or weekend hours may be required.
- →Both domestic and international travel required for this role up to 60%
