Utility Maintenance Technician II – Wastewater Maintenance

Duties The Utility Maintenance Technician II performs skilled maintenance, repair, inspection, and preventative maintenance work on the City's lift stations. Performs preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of wastewater lift station equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains wastewater pumps, motors, valves, piping, controls, floats, and related mechanical equipment. Performs electrical troubleshooting and repairs involving motors, motor controls, starters, relays, float systems, and associated electrical components. Monitors lift station performance using SCADA and other monitoring systems and responds to alarms and system failures. Conducts routine inspections of lift stations to ensure proper operation and regulatory compliance. Cleans, lubricates, adjusts, and services pumps, motors, generators, and other wastewater equipment. Assists with emergency repairs to wastewater collection infrastructure, lift stations, force mains, and related facilities. Maintains accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, work orders, and equipment documentation. Performs grounds maintenance at wastewater facilities, including mowing, weed trimming, vegetation control, painting, and general housekeeping. Operates service trucks, trailers, generators, pumps, pressure washers, hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment. Assists with confined space entry operations in accordance with OSHA regulations and departmental procedures. Identifies unsafe conditions and recommends corrective actions. Participates in scheduled and emergency on-call rotations and responds to after-hours callouts for equipment failures, utility emergencies, storms, or other emergencies. Maintains assigned tools, vehicles, and equipment in a clean and safe operating condition. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follows all City safety policies and procedures. Must have and maintain, without interruption, required certifications and licenses. Works assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policies. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED or two (2) to three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record. Working knowledge of pump mechanics and electrical repair of wastewater pumping equipment. Ability to read utility maps, blueprints, technical drawings, and maintenance manuals. Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying materials, kneeling, crouching and bending; pushing, pulling and reaching; and standing for prolonged periods of time. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. PREFERRED: Basic Wastewater Operator Certification.
