As an Engineering Manager for the Coupa Risk team, you will lead a development team responsible for our Coupa Risk application. You will play a crucial role in evolving our risk-scoring capabilities, helping your team build performant, scalable software that empowers customers to make confident compliance and risk decisions. You will balance technical leadership with team development, collaborating across product and engineering teams to integrate AI-driven risk insights and drive continuous improvement within the Coupa engineering community.
Team Leadership & Growth: Lead, coach, and empower a cross-functional development team through problem-solving sessions. Act as a servant leader, ensuring the team understands the business context behind our risk-domain due diligence initiatives.
Strategic Execution: Drive the development of "Coupa Risk" and lead the evolution of our risk-scoring capabilities to deliver more precise, actionable insights for our customers.
Process & Innovation: Partner with peer engineering managers and architects to drive continuous process improvements. Lead initiatives to adopt new technologies (e.g., AI-assisted log querying, multi-skill orchestrators) that enhance triage and production reliability.
Technical Stewardship: Oversee the adoption of Coupa’s architectural advancements. Ensure the team maintains high engineering standards (code reviews, unit testing) while delivering maintainable, scalable microservices and robust integrations.
Collaboration: Establish trust and coordinate with product management, support, cloud operations, and other engineering teams. Work closely with Product to align the team’s roadmap with the broader "Risk Aware" vision.
Hiring & Mentorship: Partner with the recruiting team to grow the team. Provide continuous feedback, create career action plans, and foster a culture of mentorship for both under- and high-performing team members.
Metrics & Delivery: Track key business and technical metrics, including feature delivery speed, code quality, and security posture (e.g., Snyk findings, Pentest remediations).
Experience:
12+ years of experience building enterprise, SaaS web applications using one or more of the following modern frameworks technologies: .Net, SQL, and Typescript and strong knowledge of Javascript, CSS, HTML5.
5+ years of relevant technical lead or management experience. You have a proven track record of growing into management from a successful individual contributor role.
Technical Proficiency: Strong background in web application or platform development. While deep familiarity with Ruby on Rails is a significant plus, you can understand complex technical architectures, review design work, and provide meaningful feedback across various technology stacks.
Engineering Discipline: Commitment to best practices, including CI/CD, code reviews, and the delivery of testable code. You prioritize building frameworks that improve long-term system stability and prevent technical debt.
Domain Insight: An interest in risk-based software solutions. You are excited by the challenge of handling complex data, regulatory compliance (e.g., DORA, GDPR), and improving customer confidence through data integrity.
Communication: Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills. You can translate complex functional requirements (like those for Risk-Aware dashboards) into clear technical tasks.
Decision Making: Ability to manage priorities in a high-growth environment, set appropriate expectations with stakeholders, and deliver high-quality features on time.
Agile Methodology: Experience with agile (Scrum) development processes and the ability to pivot as project roadmaps evolve.
