Projects Manager (High Voltage Main Transmission Stations / Substations) Location: Cape Town Office / Johannesburg Office / Site-Based (Occasionally) Role Purpose The Project Manager acts as the single point of accountability for the end-to-end delivery of large-scale, multi-disciplinary construction projects from initial award through to commissioning, handover, and final close-out. This role integrates engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial, financial, and administrative functions to consistently achieve project parameters across scope, schedule, cost, quality, SHEQ, and client satisfaction. Key Performance Focus Areas Overall project delivery encompassing time, cost, quality, and SHEQ compliance. Commercial performance, risk mitigation, and entitlement protection. Budget optimization, forecasting accuracy, and optimal project cash flow. Senior-level client satisfaction and multidisciplinary team leadership. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Governance: Lead large-scale projects from mobilization to close-out with total performance accountability; establish delivery strategies and reporting frameworks while maintaining clear visibility of progress, risks, and forecasts. Planning & Baseline Management: Approve integrated project baselines covering scope, schedule, cost, and execution; align multi-disciplinary engineering and construction streams to review risks proactively. Commercial & Contractual Management: Direct the project’s commercial position by executing disciplined contract administration; manage claims, variations, notices, and Extensions of Time (EOT) aligned with NEC, FIDIC, or JBCC frameworks. Project Financial Management: Take ownership of budget control, cost-to-complete metrics, and forecasting to protect margins and drive cost optimization. Technical Integration & Delivery: Maintain alignment between design, procurement, and construction; manage design changes and lead construction execution through Project Construction Managers and site teams. Supply Chain & Stakeholder Management: Oversee procurement strategies for long-lead items and manage supplier performance; serve as the primary senior interface for strategic engagements and progress tracking with clients. People Leadership, SHEQ & Close-Out: Mentor and manage project execution teams; enforce safety cultures, oversee regulatory compliance, and facilitate final handovers, lessons-learned reviews, and final account closures. Requirements Mandatory Tertiary Education A completed National Diploma, B.Tech, or Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines: Construction Management Project Management Engineering or a related built environment discipline Work Experience & Professional Proficiencies Industry Tenure: 10–15 years of experience in multi-disciplinary construction or infrastructure project delivery. Project Lifecycle: A proven track record of managing projects completely from inception through to commissioning and final close-out. Commercial Depth: Strong commercial, contractual, and financial management experience, specifically utilizing NEC, FIDIC, or JBCC frameworks. Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing executive-level stakeholder engagements. Systems & Planning: Competency in construction planning, sequencing, and utilizing project control systems such as MS Project, Primavera, Candy, or BuildSmart. Preferred & Advantageous Criteria Professional registration with SACPCMP (as a Pr.PM or Pr.CPM) or a PMP certification (or equivalent) is highly advantageous. Formal contract management training in FIDIC and NEC. Previous experience in High Voltage (HV) transmission, substations, or large-scale infrastructure projects involving utility frameworks (such as Eskom, NTCSA, or IPPs) is highly preferred.
