With that in mind, we are seeking a Litigation Paralegal to support our personal injury department. As a key member of the team, you will work directly with our lead attorney to manage active litigation cases, assist clients through complex legal processes, and ensure every step of the case moves forward efficiently. Your ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and take ownership of your role will play a vital part in delivering justice for those we represent.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Case Management: Manage and prioritize an active caseload of approximately 60-70 personal injury cases, ensuring no detail is missed from complaint filing through settlement or trial. Stay on top of every deadline and use your organizational skills to drive each case forward with confidence.
- →Litigation Intake Support: Conduct litigation intake with Spanish-speaking clients, reviewing the litigation process, attorney fees, case expenses, and expected timelines. Ensure clients understand and sign all necessary documentation before proceeding.
- →Drafting & Filing: Draft complaints and legal documents tailored to each case type (e.g., minors, multiple plaintiffs, premises liability, auto accidents). Coordinate timely e-filing and physical filing of all pleadings, discovery, and motions, ensuring accurate service of process.
- →Discovery Management: Monitor and manage discovery timelines, ensuring both our discovery responses and opposing counsel’s deadlines are met. Track discovery from initiation through completion, coordinating document production, issuing subpoenas, and reviewing responses.
- →Deposition Coordination: Schedule depositions of defendants, experts, and treating physicians. Ensure all logistics are handled and materials are prepped, keeping the attorney fully informed and supported.
- →Trial & Mediation Support: Prepare for mediation and trial by gathering case files, organizing exhibits, drafting witness summaries, and ensuring all materials needed by the attorney are ready and organized for both mediation and courtroom proceedings. Assist in preparing for settlement discussions or alternative dispute resolution as needed.
- →Workflow Oversight: Maintain accountability for tracking service of complaints, filing deadlines, and post-answer review. Stay proactive in ensuring all necessary actions are completed on time, including alerting the attorney to key issues from the defendant's answer and managing follow-ups with clients and third parties.
- →Client Support: Provide empathetic, non-legal support to clients throughout their case, helping them navigate the process, addressing concerns, and ensuring a positive experience even during stressful situations.
- →Billing & Expenses: Track billable hours and case-related expenses as needed to support accurate client billing and firm reporting.
- →Adaptable & Growth-Oriented: Willing to learn and grow into higher responsibility, including case review with pre-lit teams and eventually taking on more decision-making as needed.
- →Commitment & Reliability: Brings steadiness and follow-through, with the maturity to see cases through from start to finish and grow with the team long-term.
- Spanish Fluency: Must be bilingual in Spanish and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages to effectively serve our client base.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years in personal injury litigation or defense work, with hands-on experience supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation.
- Drafting & Filing Proficiency: Able to independently draft complaints, pleadings, motions, and discovery. Familiar with court filing procedures, both physical and electronic.
- Organizational Strength: Detail-oriented and highly organized, able to manage 60-70 litigation cases at a time, keeping everything on track from case intake through resolution.
- Initiative & Independence: Confident working autonomously, taking ownership of tasks like coordinating service, managing deadlines, and preparing attorneys for mediation or depositions.
- Client-Focused Communication: Empathetic communicator who can clearly explain legal processes, manage client expectations, and maintain regular updates without overcomplicating issues.
