Responsibilities

- →Draft motions, pleadings, briefs, and correspondence (often filing-ready with minimal revision).
- →E-file and submit courtesy copies in accordance with Tennessee court rules and local procedures.
- →Calendaring, Scheduling & Case Admin
- →Own deadline management and court calendars; schedule hearings, depositions, client meetings, and appearances.
- →Maintain complete, audit-ready files (including representation agreements); track tasks in Filevine (or similar).
- →Discovery & Case Analysis
- →Organize and analyze discovery into attorney-ready work product.
- →Review and summarize depositions/testimony; prepare deposition kits and materials.
- →Research & Trial Support
- →Conduct targeted research (Westlaw/Lexis or similar) to support strategy and motion practice.
- →Prepare exhibits, witness lists, subpoenas; build trial binders and ensure courtroom materials are ready.
- →Client, Witness & Vendor Coordination
- →Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, experts, and court staff; manage logistics and updates.
- →Provide front-of-house support (phone presence, intake/screening) as needed.
- →Payments & Collections
- →Set up and manage payment plans, track balances, follow up on past-due accounts, and maintain records.
- →Office Operations & Process Improvement
- →Be on-site to receive mail/deliveries, accept in-person payments, and coordinate vendors.
- →Help create SOPs and lightweight performance/evaluation processes as the firm scales.
- →Future Growth
- →Opportunity to mentor/train future hires and evolve into senior/lead paralegal or office manager as the team expands.
- Experience & Background: 2–3+ years as a paralegal (criminal/family strongly preferred); comfortable in a small-firm environment handling both paralegal and office-ops duties.
- Drafting & Written Advocacy: Delivers motions/briefs/pleadings that are often filing-ready with minimal revision; formats to local rules and reduces attorney edit time.
- Discovery & File Mastery: Organizes/analyzes discovery like an attorney; builds usable, attorney-ready files; prepares depo kits; keeps rep agreements and documentation complete and audit-ready.
- Calendaring & Court Procedure: Owns deadlines and court calendars end-to-end; schedules hearings/depositions; handles Tennessee e-filing and local procedures (or ramps quickly with little oversight).
- Payments & Office Operations: Sets up/manages payment plans, tracks balances, and follows up; receives in-person payments; manages mail/deliveries/vendors; maintains a professional front-of-house.
- Communication, Initiative & Reliability: Proactive and self-directed; communicates crisply with attorneys, clients, courts, and vendors; thrives in a culture of grace with boundaries; consistently meets reasonable deadlines (bonus: confident phone presence for intake).
- Tools & Technical Proficiency: Filevine (or comparable case-management), calendar tools, MS Office/Google Workspace; phone systems; targeted legal research as needed.
- Build from day one: Be the firm’s cornerstone paralegal—shape systems, write simple SOPs, and help stand up lightweight performance/evaluation processes.
- High-impact ownership: Draft filing-ready motions/briefs, run calendars and deadlines, and keep attorneys focused on the highest-value work.
- Cross-practice exposure: Work across criminal and family (plus some civil), touching discovery, depositions, and trial prep—real variety, real learning.
- Mentorship & fast feedback: Collaborate directly with two litigators for quick iterations that sharpen your writing, strategy, and case-management skills.
- Clear growth runway: As the team expands, step into mentoring, lead paralegal, or office manager responsibilities.
