Department of Child, Adolescent, & Family Studies - Assistant Professor

The Department of Child, Adolescent, & Family Studies at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor, tenure track position to begin August 2027.

The Department invites applications from teacher-scholars whose research and teaching are situated at the intersection of family studies and child development. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in families with young children and who have the ability to teach courses in family studies, early childhood development, and early childhood education.

Qualified candidates are those that possess the necessary content expertise in family studies, specialize in studying early childhood development, and engage in scholarship and teaching supporting historically underrepresented groups, diversity, equity, and/or social justice.

The Department of Child, Adolescent, & Family Studies offers both theoretical and practical application courses, designed to help prepare graduates for direct service careers working with children of diverse backgrounds, to merge developmental knowledge with practical experience, and to prepare students for graduate training.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in family studies, and be able to teach courses in these areas, as well as in early childhood development, at both the undergraduate and master’s levels (with class sizes ranging from 30 to 200 students). Demonstrated excellence in university teaching is essential. Additionally, the successful candidate must have an active and viable research program in which they can supervise, mentor, and involve undergraduate and graduate students. A record, or emerging record, of scholarly activities (e.g., peer-reviewed publications and/or conference presentations) is expected. The potential for securing external funding is also desirable.

• Required qualifications for the position include: [A Ph.D. in child development, human development, developmental psychology, family studies, or a related field is required at the time of appointment.]

• In addition to the qualifications listed above, a research program with an applied focus and/or evidence of community-based professional activities is desired

Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.
