Full-Time Lecturer of Interpreting

• M.A. or equivalent terminal degree in Interpreting Studies, Translation and Interpreting, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the MA degree by August 1, 2027.
• Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in interpreting theory and practice, including consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
• Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students
• Demonstrated professional interpreting experience
• Evidence of an active or developing program of research, scholarly and creative activity in interpreting studies, translation and interpreting, applied linguistics, or a related field
• Demonstrated ability to use interpreting technologies and remote interpreting platforms

• PhD or Professional doctorate in Interpreting; Professional interpreting experience in one or more areas such as court/legal, medical/healthcare, educational, community, or conference interpreting
• Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
• Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
• Demonstrated ability to teach both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
• Professional certification in court and/or medical interpreting
• Experience preparing students or professionals for interpreter certification examinations
• Experience coordinating programs, practicum placements, interpreter teams, or language-access services
• Experience with remote simultaneous interpreting, video remote interpreting, terminology-management tools, and/or AI-assisted interpreting tools
• Multilingual proficiency and experience working with linguistically diverse communities, particularly in Southern California
• Experience building partnerships with courts, hospitals, schools, governmental agencies, nonprofits, or community organizations
• Experience developing online or hybrid interpreting courses or professional training programs

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in interpreting theory and practice, including consecutive and simultaneous interpreting; sight translation; court/legal, medical/healthcare, educational, community, and conference interpreting; professional ethics; and interpreting technology. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
• Recruit and coordinate a multilingual interpreter pool for language-pair modules and institutional or regional language-access needs
• Develop and update curriculum; supervise interpreting laboratories, practica, internships, and performance-based assessments; prepare students for relevant professional certification examinations
• Build partnerships with courts, healthcare institutions, schools, governmental agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations
• Integrate real-world case studies, simulations, and community-based practicum experiences into coursework
• Train students in active listening, memory development, consecutive note-taking, voice and delivery, rapid processing and reformulation, cultural mediation, pragmatics, and ethical decision-making in high-stakes settings
• Support the M.A. in Translation and Interpreting by teaching new interpreting courses and directing theses in emerging areas of interpreting studies
• Contribute to workforce preparation and equitable language access for Spanish and other high-demand regional languages
