Under general supervision, the Lead Groundsworker works with Grounds employees maintaining ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, groundcover, lawns, and flowers. The incumbent performs trash collection and other grounds maintenance work on campus and in parking lots/structures

  • This position leads and assists on landscape project work, such as sodding; may assist with installing sprinkler systems, campus-wide pruning, landscaping, and setup for special events.
  • Leads and assists in maintaining athletic fields, fences, parking lots, tree wells, streets, drainage systems, walkways, hedges, and trees.
  • Operates tractors, riding mowers, small power equipment, and other automotive equipment.
  • Maintains records, makes reports, completes labor entries and sign-in sheets; inputs time/tracks MetaBim work orders and assists grounds workers with entries, makes recommendations for purchase of supplies and equipment for the Landscape and Grounds area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in planting, cultivating and maintaining flowers and shrubs, or in general grounds maintenance work.
  • LICENSE: CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER’S LICENSE.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices, including the care of ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, groundcover, lawns, flowers, athletic fields, hedges, and trees.
  • Skill in performing landscape projects, irrigation installation, pruning, sodding, grounds maintenance, minor equipment repairs, and the safe use of hand tools and power equipment.
  • Ability to operate tractors, riding mowers, carts, pick-up trucks, and other automotive equipment safely across campus and in parking lots and structures.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training, maintain accurate records and reports, enter labor and work-order information, assist with employee selection, and recommend supplies and equipment.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $3890 – $5555 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3890 - $5555 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday 6:00 am – 2:30 pm. May include evenings and weekends.
This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
