Math/Business/Science Tutor at TASC - Spring 2027
Quick Summary
About the Role
~2 min readTutors at the Tutoring & Academic Support Center (TASC) are upper division and graduate SFSU students who are passionate about working with students to help them learn and develop the math, science, quantitative business, computing, and academic study skills across all majors. Tutors provide support in one-on-one appointments and drop-in sessions to help students at all levels achieve their academic goals.
In addition to providing academic support, tutors serve as peer educators and campus leaders who develop transferable professional skills aligned with the NACE Career Competencies. Through tutoring, training, collaboration, and reflective practice, tutors strengthen competencies in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, professionalism, equity and inclusion, leadership, and career and self-development. These align with the NACE Career Competencies that are considered highly desirable in professional settings (and often cannot be replaced by AI).
New tutors at TASC are supported with two hours of paid ongoing training every week in their first semester. The training, run by TASC faculty, is held every Wednesday afternoon sometime between 12-4pm (we will work to find a time block when all new tutors are available). The mandatory trainings are helpful and supportive, and they begin the first week of classes. All tutors participate in an all-staff workshop held the Friday before the semester starts. New tutors start working with students within the first month after required training. Both work study and non-work study positions are available.
