Join San Diego State University as a Systems Administrator II and help support the enterprise technologies that power the SDSU Library. As the technical administrator for the library's Ex Libris Alma and Primo platforms, you'll configure and optimize cloud-based library systems, support integrations with campus applications, and partner with Library faculty, CSU colleagues, and vendors to deliver reliable, user-focused services that support teaching, learning, and research.

Responsibilities

  • Library Systems Administration
    • Configure, maintain, and enhance Ex Libris Alma, Primo, and related library services.
    • Implement configuration changes to support Library operations and evolving campus needs.
    • Develop documentation, test new features, and provide guidance on library system functionality.
  • Systems Integration & Support
    • Support integrations between library systems and campus enterprise applications, including identity management and authentication services.
    • Troubleshoot system, integration, and data synchronization issues to ensure reliable access to library resources.
    • Coordinate with Library staff, campus IT teams, and CSU partners to resolve technical issues and implement new functionality.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
    • Partner with Ex Libris, vendors, and CSU colleagues to evaluate enhancements, coordinate testing, and improve system performance.
    • Develop reports, analyze system data, and identify opportunities to improve workflows and business processes.
    • Contribute to ongoing enhancements that strengthen library technologies and the user experience.

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

We're looking for someone who enjoys administering enterprise applications, collaborating with users, and improving technology services.

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Library platforms such as Ex Libris Alma, Primo, Sierra, Koha, or similar integrated library systems
  • Enterprise SaaS applications
  • Systems integrations, APIs, or web services
  • Identity management and authentication technologies (SSO, SAML, LDAP)
  • SQL, reporting, or data analysis
  • Higher education or library technology environments

  • Full-time, benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • This position is eligible for telecommuting up to 2 days per week, following a training period during which on-site presence is required.

Requirements

  • Experience supporting or administering library systems (e.g., Alma, Primo, or other integrated library systems) or comparable enterprise platforms.
  • Experience working with data analysis, reporting, or analytics tools.
  • Experience supporting system integrations, data workflows, or data exchange technologies (e.g., XML, JSON, APIs, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to support system configuration, testing, implementation, and ongoing enhancements.
  • Experience providing technical training, documentation, or user support in a professional environment.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience working in an academic library or higher education environment.
    • Experience with Ex Libris Alma, Primo, or other library services platforms.
    • Experience with enterprise authentication, reporting, analytics, scripting, or automation technologies (e.g., SSO, Shibboleth, SAML, Python, SQL, or similar).
    • Experience participating in cross-functional technical projects involving technical and non-technical stakeholders.
