The Development Associate is responsible for the management of events hosted at Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT and events associated with the GCC Foundation, Inc. The Associate serves as the College liaison to community special events and event records management.
The Associate assists the Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement in all areas pertaining to the activities of the GCC Foundation, Inc. Performs a full range of professional fundraising activities including special event coordination. Plans and carries out work assignments using judgment in applying professional principles and guidelines within established policies and broadly defined procedures.

~1 min readUnder the direction of the Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement, the Development Associate of Events is responsible for providing assistance and support for a wide range of programs and activities related to the Institutional Advancement department, and the coordination of special events on the GCC campus through effective performance in these essential duties:

Additional responsibilities include:
- →Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
- →Service on assigned committees and task forces
- →Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings which may occur during evenings and weekends.

Requirements
~1 min readBachelor’s degree in an appropriately related field together with one (1) or more years of professional experience in development; or a combination of education, experience and training which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Fundraising
- Ability to maintain accurate files and prepare reports
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with internal and external constituent groups including alumni, donors, businesses, vendors, local community-based organizations, and faculty/staff/students.
- Strong organizational and administrative abilities
- Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Two (2) or more years of experience representing an organization in donor-facing, public-facing, or other high-stakes settings, including responsibility for sensitive communications, relationship management, or stewardship activities.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating complex events or projects involving three or more operational departments or functional areas, such as culinary services, public safety, facilities, advancement, or comparable units.
- Demonstrated experience providing administrative or executive support in higher education, non-profit foundations, or executive offices, including scheduling, board or committee meeting preparation, and records management.

The selection process may include interviews and practical exercises (e.g., written, technical, or simulation exercises). Finalists will be recommended to the Hiring Manager for final selection.
