Our Consumer Energy team is currently seeking to appoint a Director Consumer Policy to lead a transformative policy agenda to deliver affordable, equitable, and sustainable energy outcomes for NSW consumers.
The role provides strategic leadership and expert advice across major national and NSW initiatives – including overseeing and governing actions under the $290 million Consumer Energy Strategy – and ensures NSW remains a national leader in energy policy. During FY27, this role will also drive the development of the NSW Built Environment Sector Plan for DCCEEW, ensuring alignment with NSW Government energy, climate and economic objectives.
The role oversees policy, program and legislative reforms to support the economy-wide transition to net zero emissions and improve consumer outcomes through the delivery of evidence-based, innovative, and forward-looking policy solutions.
You are a strategic and influential policy leader with extensive experience leading complex consumer energy policy development, reform and implementation at an executive level. You bring a strong understanding of the energy sector, regulatory environments and government governance frameworks, coupled with sound financial, budget and resource management expertise.
You thrive in fast-paced and politically sensitive environments, providing clear, evidence-based advice on complex issues while balancing competing priorities and stakeholder interests. A skilled communicator and negotiator, you build trusted relationships across government, industry and community sectors to achieve consensus and deliver meaningful outcomes.
You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, managing risk and driving innovative policy solutions that deliver long-term benefits for consumers while supporting government objectives and the transition to a more sustainable energy future.
Requirements
~1 min read- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or relevant equivalent experience in policy development for consumer energy or energy sector.

DCCEEW also ensures sustainable management of water resources across the state, to support the environment, communities and industry.
