As a Program Officer, you will facilitate outdoor recreation activities that help people learn, connect and grow through experience.

From curriculum-aligned school camps and holiday activities, to supporting community and, sporting groups achieve their goals, you will use active recreation as a platform to build confidence, teamwork, resilience, leadership and social connection.

In this role, you will:

Facilitate purposeful outdoor learning experiences that support participant and community outcomes.
Work across a diverse range of programs and client groups, including school camps, community groups, sporting organisations and holiday activities.
Experience some of NSW's most unique outdoor environments across our network of 10 Sport and Recreation Centres.
Make a meaningful contribution to the wellbeing, development and connection of young people and communities across NSW.

About the Role

The Program Officer facilitates participation in outdoor recreation and education activities for school, community and sporting groups.

Working closely with teachers, group leaders, Program Coordinators and participants, you will facilitate safe, engaging and inclusive experiences that support learning, wellbeing and participation outcomes.

You will contribute to delivery of program outcomes through facilitation and, participant engagement in a range of outdoor recreation activities,

You will also play an important role in participant safety, risk management, equipment and resource management, incident management and emergency response and undertake rostered overnight duties that require residing onsite during residential programs.

  

From kayaking, canoeing and rock climbing to archery, bushwalking, orienteering and team challenges, no two days are the same as you support diverse participant groups to build confidence, resilience, teamwork and social connection. Day in the Life at School Camp - Lake Burrendong

On any given day, you could be: 

  • Working with teachers and Program Coordinators to deliver activities aligned to program objectives.
  • Leading outdoor recreation and team-building activities for school camps and holiday activity programs.
  • Supporting community groups and sporting organisations  to achieve specific outcomes.
  • Preparing equipment, resources and maintaining activity areas.
  • Managing participant safety and applying risk management practices.

 

All designed to create memorable outdoor learning experiences that encourage people to challenge themselves and achieve their goals.

 

You enjoy working with people and creating environments where they can learn, connect and succeed.

You understand that outdoor recreation activities are a vehicle for learning, growth and personal development. Whether supporting curriculum outcomes for a school group or facilitating a community program, you focus on creating positive experiences that leave a lasting impact.

You bring:

  • Experience facilitating participation in  outdoor recreation, outdoor education or active recreation activities to achieve individual customer outcomes.
  • Strong facilitation and instructional skills.
  • The ability to engage confidently with a diverse range of participants and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A commitment to participant safety, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • The adaptability to respond to changing participant needs, group dynamics and environmental conditions.

 

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant field or Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation/Leadership with relevant industry experience. 
  • Willingness to work within a non-continuous shift arrangement, including rostered shifts and overnight residential duties that require residing at the Centre and being available on-call outside program hours. 
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification. 
  • Current Driver’s license 

 

  • Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of appointment 
  • Current Recreational Boat Licence and/or Coxswain qualification.
