OBJECTIVE/SUMMARY
The Project Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of marine construction projects, including providing technical and operational expertise to the Bid Team, participating in proposal preparation, labor and resource planning, scheduling, and driving projects through to completion and final approval. This is a broad, high-visibility role supporting multiple simultaneous initiatives in close partnership with senior leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES/GOALS
- Assist in the preparation of proposal and bid packages
- Project scheduling using Critical Path Method (CPM)
- Assist in development of project plans that meet client requirements and timelines
- Own overall responsibility for the successful execution of assigned projects
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients; gather requirements and specifications
- Provide technical expertise to the Bid Team in support of proposal development
- Develop project plans and regularly track milestones across multiple concurrent initiatives
- Identify potential conflicts or delays in the project timeline and work proactively to resolve them
- Manage resources needed to successfully complete projects
- Track project expenditures and report to the Controller
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies
- Maintain meticulous digital organization of all project documentation, timelines, correspondence, and deliverables
- Work directly with senior leadership to align project priorities and communicate status
QUALIFICATIONS AND APTITUDES REQUIRED
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of project management experience, ideally spanning multiple simultaneous projects or programs
- Maritime industry experience preferred; candidates from other industries with strong construction, infrastructure, or operations backgrounds are encouraged to apply
- No specific certifications or licenses required — we welcome applicants from all professional backgrounds
Tools & Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency managing projects using digital PM tools and platforms (examples: MS Project, Primavera P6, Smartsheet, Monday.com, Asana, Notion, or equivalent)
Applicants are encouraged to submit a brief portfolio or examples of how they organize and manage projects digitally — this is a meaningful differentiator in our selection process
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
Mental Aptitudes
- Exceptional organizational skills — especially in digital environments — are a must
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects that vary in nature, scope, and complexity
- Ability to identify and anticipate task sequence conflicts across multiple workstreams
- Self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance while knowing when to escalate
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, high-interruption environment
- Confidence to communicate clearly with crew members, staff, and senior leadership
Physical Aptitudes
- Must meet "fit for duty" requirements upon job offer (pre-employment physical and drug test)
- Must be able to climb onto tugs, barges, and up and down ladders
- Must be able to work in variable weather conditions (rain, ice, wind, heat, etc.)
- Ability to work when exposed to odors, dust, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially hazardous equipment
