About the role 
DayOne is building its flagship hyperscale data center campus in Lahti, on a former industrial site in Kiveriö. The campus is designed to use Finland's naturally cool climate for free cooling, with air-cooled chillers that remove the need for freshwater cooling. Join the Lahti team early and help shape how a campus of this scale is built, commissioned, and run.

As a Shift Lead you are responsible for overseeing the operations of a team of shift technicians. You will ensure that all critical services and building services are maintained to the highest standards, and that shift handover reports are prepared and completed on time, guaranteeing a seamless transition between shifts.  

This role requires working in shifts to provide 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays. 

 
Your key responsibilities will include, 

Leadership and Supervision:   

• Leading and managing a team of shift technicians, ensuring they perform their duties effectively.   

• Providing guidance and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.    

• Conducting regular performance reviews and providing feedback to team members. 

Operations, Incident & Shift Management 

• Overseeing day-to-day data center operations and ensuing critical systems are operating efficiently. 

• Monitoring facility infrastructure, manage incidents, and coordinate timely escalation and resolution of issues. 

• Providing technical guidance to the shift team and collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and support teams to address operational challenges. 

• Ensuring effective shift handovers through clear communication, reporting, and documentation of incidents, activities, and ongoing actions. 

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement 

• Ensuring compliance with safety procedures, operational standards, and regulatory requirements. 

• Identifying opportunities for process improvements, operational efficiencies, and implementation of best practices. 

Requirements 

Technical skills 

• Technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering, or a related field. 

• Previous experience in an operational role in a data center, mission-critical facility, industrial plant, or similar critical environment including responsibility for supervising or coordinating team activities. 

• Knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, generators, UPS systems, cooling systems, and fire suppression systems. 

Soft skills 

• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams in a technical or operational environment. 

• Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with high integrity and a collaborative working style. 

• Knowledge of and adherence to health, safety, and compliance procedures in a critical operations environment. 

• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Finnish is a plus.
