Assistant Attorney II

Responsibilities

The Assistant Attorney II is a professional\r\nposition that answers to the Director, Division Chief or any Senior Attorney,\r\ndepending on the assignment and provides a variety of legal services, which may\r\nbe civil, traffic, administrative, or criminal law related. The incumbent\r\nassists the Director of Law in providing legal counsel and representation to\r\nthe City and its various departments, agencies, boards, officials and\r\nemployees.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Assistant Attorney II provides legal research, as well as renders both oral and written\r\nlegal opinions. May be\r\nrequired to provide representation at administrative tribunals, and before\r\nmunicipal and state common pleas and appeal courts, including both jury and\r\nnon-jury matters. Handles plea negotiations and settlements\r\nof civil cases, controversies and claims.�The Assistant Attorney II is responsible for\r\ndrafting�memorandum, pleadings, briefs, contracts, ordinances,\r\nresolutions, legislation proposals, leases, deeds, purchase agreements and\r\nadministrative regulations and policies on behalf of the City.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIncumbent is expected to stay informed of municipal, criminal, and\r\nany related fields of law and fulfill all Continuing Legal Education (CLE)\r\nrequirements.\r\n\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

L.L.B. or J.D. from an accredited law school in good standing with the Ohio Bar Association AND 3 years of\r\nexperience as a practicing attorney.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMaster’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration may be substituted for one year of the above\r\nrequired experience.�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDegree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.�\r\n

License Requirements

\r\nMust possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.\r\n

Special Requirements

Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued\r\nemployment.\r\n\r\n
