Responsibilities

As Camp Nurse, you’ll play a vital role in keeping campers and staff safe, healthy, and supported throughout their summer experience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • →Providing first aid and emergency care for injuries or illnesses, ensuring the well-being of campers and staff.
  • →Administering medications in accordance with camper health plans, keeping detailed documentation of dosages and administration times.
  • →Maintaining accurate and confidential health records in adherence to applicable state and local health regulations and privacy laws, including health documentation, incident reports, and medication administration logs, aligned with DEAN’s recordkeeping policies.
  • →Collaborate with the Operations Director to develop and refine pre-camp health processes, ensuring compliance with state and site regulations
  • →Coordinate care plans, communicate health updates, and ensure all staff understand health center procedures throughout the summer.
  • →Provide compassionate emotional support to campers and staff as part of overall health and wellness care, identifying when additional behavioral or mental health support may be needed and communicating to leadership.
  • →Educating staff on basic health protocols, including first aid, sun safety, and emergency procedures.
  • →Communicating with parents about camper health concerns, incidents, and medication requirements, via phone, email, and in person methods.
  • →Ensuring the health center is well-stocked with necessary medical supplies, communicating inventory needs to onsite leadership in a timely manner; taking ownership of establishing procedures, documentation systems, and readiness standards that support an efficient and compliant Health Center.
  • →Conducting health screenings and overseeing allergy and dietary needs.
  • Passionate about health – Knowledgeable in safety, wellness, and child health standards (physical and emotional).
  • Strong critical-thinking skills – Proven ability to handle emergencies while maintaining a safe and encouraging atmosphere for campers.
  • Friendly & approachable – Enjoyable experience working as a nurse with children aged 4-15 years.
  • Organized and excellent communicator – Effective at storing and relaying information to supervisors and families.
  • Tech-savvy – Comfortable using tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and online health records systems, such as CampBrain.
  • Agile – Able to meet the physical demands of a high-energy camp setting with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • Full on-site availability Monday–Friday from June 14th –August 20th
    • Hours: camp operates 7am–6pm, nurses typically work 35 hours per week within this timeframe, shared across two nurses.
    • Ability to commute to: 370 Lancaster Ave, Haverford, PA 19041
  • Must meet applicable immunization requirements, subject to reasonable accommodation as required by law, and complete an emergency health information form upon hire.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, respond quickly to emergencies, and work in an active, outdoor environment.
  • Must have valid CPR/BLS certification + active and unencumbered RN license in the state of PA.
  • Pediatric or camp experience, 2 years minimum.

✓Pay range: $32–40/hour
✓FLSA Status: This is a seasonal full-time, non-exempt position under the FLSA.
✓Paid training: remote training on: including safety, DEIB, and more + in-person team training the weekend prior to camp; please note that training is paid at state minimum wage, or $12/hr, whichever is higher.
