Job Duties

The Talent Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing proactive outreach and engagement strategies to attract qualified candidates for Corrections Officer positions within the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC). This position focuses on building awareness of corrections careers, establishing meaningful community partnerships, and developing sustainable talent pipelines to support facility staffing needs.

The position plays a key role in establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with high schools, community colleges, vocational and technical programs, workforce development organizations, and community partners to introduce individuals to career opportunities as Corrections Officers. Through proactive outreach, community engagement, career exploration activities, and targeted recruitment events, the Coordinator promotes VADOC as an employer of choice and encourages individuals to consider a career in corrections.

Working collaboratively with facility leadership and recruitment teams, the coordinator identifies outreach opportunities and develops innovative approaches to connect with prospective candidates, particularly in geographic areas experiencing recruitment challenges. The position emphasizes relationship-building, early career awareness, and nontraditional talent pipelines to expand the pool of qualified Corrections Officer applicants.

The successful candidate also leverages recruitment technology, social media, digital engagement platforms, and available sourcing resources to include Indeed to maintain connections with prospective candidates, promote hiring opportunities, and proactively source and support ongoing candidate engagement from initial interest throughout the recruitment

The position also provides targeted recruitment and outreach support for other hard-to-fill VADOC positions, which may include Probation and Parole Officers, Education positions, healthcare positions, skilled trades, food service, and other occupations identified as agency recruitment priorities.
