Salary Range: $74,718 - $79,295 

Responsibilities

  • →Timely reporting to the Grand Jury with a professional demeanor to transcribe verbatim testimony.
  • →Utilize Case Catalyst software to transcribe testimony minutes.
  • →Transcribe audiovisual materials, such as body worn camera footage and 911 calls.
  • →Maintain precise records of proceedings and stenographic notes.
  • →Testify in court regarding the accuracy of the Grand Jury testimony.
  • →Perform additional reporter/stenographer duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate Occupational Science Degree in Court Reporting.
  • Before appointment, you will be required to demonstrate your proficiency to take and transcribe at 180-200 words per minute for five minutes using a stenographic machine.
  • Experience using Case Catalyst software. 
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment collaboratively and cooperatively.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, meet and establish deadlines, prioritize amongst competing needs, respond in a timely manner to requests, and adapt to changes in workflow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 
  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and reside in one of the five boroughs of New York City.
  • Monday – Friday from 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM. 
  • Depending on grand jury proceedings, may be required to stay beyond 5:30 PM.
  • Apply with a Cover Letter and Resume. 
  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
  • If selected for this position, you must take and pass the civil service exam for Reporter/Stenographer when it becomes available in order to remain employed in this position.
  • Looking for candidates that could commit to one (1) year to the hiring unit.
  • Candidates will be tested before they are eligible for an interview.
