This is an entry-level position and the incumbent works under the guidance of higher-grade employees. As a crew member, the incumbent performs manual and technical activities to support the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the water distribution and sewer collection systems. Major activities of the crew include, but not limited to, performing investigations and inspections; repair, replacement and lining of mains and service lines, laterals, taps, fire hydrants, valves, catch basins; etc.
- Performs limited tasks to support the general maintenance and repair activities of the water distribution and sewer collection systems. Under the guidance of a higher grade employee, performs various assignments from day-to-day to include, but not limited to, assisting in the repair and maintenance of mains and service lines, laterals, taps, fire hydrants, valves, catch basins, etc.
- Performs limited manual tasks when accompanying higher grade employee during the inspection and investigation of the water and sewer systems in response to water leaks, sewer problems, service backups, service breaks, meter malfunctions, billing issues, and other customer complaints.
- Performs limited manual and technical activities as part of the crew during emergency and scheduled work. Emergency and scheduled work may include shutting off mains; cleaning of catch basins, raising and lowering manholes, bringing cleanouts and other assets to grade; constructing and installing manholes and cleanouts.
- Distributes and serves appropriate notifications to customers including, but not limited to, service interruptions water shut offs, no parking signs and verbal and written communications, as applicable.
- Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel. As needed, operates various types of equipment and non-CDL vehicles to accomplish work.
- Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations relating to confined space, traffic control, excavation work, etc. Assists in the installation of traffic control excavation and confined space safety devices.
- Utilizes various equipment and works along with higher grade worker in determining the location of underground structures and leaks.
- Assists in preparing daily work reports recording field data and accurate description of work.
- Cleans and flushes sewer lines, assists in televising sewer mains using closed circuit TV camera system.
- May use mobile telephones and two-way radios, pagers, and other communication devises.
- Cleans and restores work sites after jobs are completed to ensure that worksites are left in a safe, clean and acceptable condition.
- Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the direction of the immediate supervisor.

Required Skills & Qualifications
| Required Experience: |
One (1) year of experience related to or equal to work involved with repairing, maintaining water distribution and/or sewer collection systems. |
| Minimum Education Requirements: |
| High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. |
| Required Skills: |
| Ability to grasp quickly the use of the full range of tools and equipment of the trade. |
| Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. |
| Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. |
| Required Licenses & Certifications: |
| Must possess and maintain current a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. |
| Physical Requirements: |
| The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) on highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. |
| There are routine risks of exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution. |
The position may involve periodic risks of exposure to raw sewage, chemical substances and physical trauma of minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. |
