Primary Role:
The Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) and Aesthetic Nurse (Laser Certified) provides clinical and administrative support along with laser procedures within the ENT and aesthetic clinic. The nurse is responsible for patient intake, preparation for procedures, delivery of approved aesthetic and laser treatments within scope of licensure and certification, patient education, coordination of diagnostic testing and follow-up care, operating room scheduling, and communication with precertification and insurance team. The post holder is expected to maintain safe practice, accurate documentation, infection prevention standards, and efficient clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Patient Care
- Provide direct nursing care in a clinic setting
- Prepare patients for ENT and aesthetic examination and procedures in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Assist surgeon during ENT procedures as required.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures within scope of practice.
- Carry out physician orders accurately and within required timeframes.
- Administer hearing screening tests once trained how to do so, in accordance with clinic protocols and scope of practice.
- Fit patient with equipment needed for sleep studies and provide pre-procedure education and instructions.
- Provide immediate clinical support in emergency situations.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
Aesthetics and Laser Services
- Perform approved laser and aesthetic treatments within scope of training, licensure, certification, and clinic protocols, under the supervision of the Otolaryngologist ENT & Aesthetic Surgeon
- Deliver Laser treatments for treatment of acne, scarring, rosacea, pigmentation, sun damage, hair removal, and skin rejuvenation.
- Perform chemical peels and other approved aesthetic procedures.
- Operate multiple approved, advanced Laser systems including Nd: Yag and radiofrequency, under the supervision of the Otolaryngologist ENT & Aesthetic Surgeon.
- Prepare and review consent forms for pre and post procedure instructions.
- Take and maintain clinical photographs for aesthetic patients as required.
- Explain treatment indications, risks, expected outcomes, and aftercare requirements.
Patient Coordination and Administration
- Assist with patient registration when needed.
- Assist with scheduling clinic appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits when needed.
- Assist with scheduling operating room booking for ENT and facial plastics’ OR cases and coordinate with relevant department.
- Organize required diagnostic testing and investigations, including hearing tests, imaging, and blood work, and ensure results are available for physician to review before consultation, procedure, or surgery.
- Liaise with precertification team and insurance to provide all required documentation for procedures.
- Ensure letters of authorization and insurance approvals are obtained before scheduled procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of insurance communication and authorization status.
Patient Education and Communication
- Provide pre and post procedures teaching to patients and families.
- Reinforce instructions given by the Otolaryngologist ENT & Aesthetic Surgeon regarding medication, recovery, restrictions, and warning signs.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, physicians, staff, and external providers.
- Answer telephone calls and manage clinic related enquiries appropriately.
- Documentation and Clinic Operations
- Maintain accurate, and timely nursing and treatment documentation.
- Ensure patient records are current and complete.
- Maintain efficient patient flow and support daily clinic operations.
- Prepare and help turn over ENT, laser, and aesthetic treatment rooms between patients.
- Ensure clinic rooms are stocked.
- Assist with cleaning scopes, instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention and clinic standards.
- Comply with clinic and Doctors Hospital safety, infection control, and risk management policies.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in ENT and Aesthetics clinic meetings, activities and assigned committees.
- Support activities related to quality improvement and accreditation requirements.
- Participate in orientation and support of new staff as required.
- Maintain continued professional development and required certification.
- Maintain professional conduct, appearance, and adherence to dress code of Doctors Hospital.
Participation in Committee Activities
The employee, as part of his/her job description shall take part in the activities of any committee that he/she is assigned by his/her supervisor and is expected to attend all scheduled meetings. The employee further agrees to be an active participant in assigned activities related to Doctors Hospital attaining and maintaining Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation.
Qualifications / Knowledge Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Current licensure or registration as a Registered Nurse in good standing in an approved jurisdiction.
- Laser certification required (by date of employment or within 6 months of employment)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a hospital or surgical clinic, exposure to ENT is an asset.
- Willing to undergo our laser safety test and pass with a grade over 80%.
- Willing to undergo hands-on laser test and pass with a grade of over 90%.
- Strong computer skills and experience with electronic medical records and scheduling systems required.
Accountability:
The registered nurse will be accountable and report to the Otolaryngologist ENT & Aesthetic Surgeon.
Travel:
None expected.
Additional Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage clinical and administrative responsibilities in a busy outpatient setting.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to provide clear patient education and instructions.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional, respectful, and patient-centered approach to care.
Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements:
- Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Requires use of hands, fingers for clinical, technical, and documentation tasks.
- Require lifting, reaching, grasping, and carrying items up to 15 lbs.
- Work is performed indoors in a clinic setting.
- No Travel required.
