JOB DESCRIPTION NURSING ASSISTANT
REPORTS TO: Chief Nurse / Clinical Coordinator / The Nursing Assistant works under the direct
supervision of the Registered Nursing team for daily duties and patient care responsibilities and
is ultimately accountable to the Clinical Coordinator and Chief Nurse.
CLASS: Full-Time

PRIMARY ROLE:
Provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion
are at the core of all we do. The Nursing Assistant’s role is to provide technical assistance and
supportive patient care to meet the needs of individual patients throughout assigned areas.
• Assist with patient care activities as directed by the Charge Nurse or designee, in accordance
with the patient’s plan of care.
• Support patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, oral care, skin care, toileting, and
use of catheters, enemas, or other aids as required.
• Assist with feeding and monitor dietary intake as necessary.
• Help ambulate, reposition, and care for patients with limited mobility.
• Measure and record vital signs, weight, urine output, and fluid intake and inform the Registered
Nurse assigned to the patient.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition, behavior, or safety needs, including those from
correctional environments.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
• Monitor and restock supplies in patient care areas, and submit supply when items need to be
reordered. Assist with basic tasks in specialty service areas as required.
• Ensure a clean, safe care environment; follow infection control, aseptic, and isolation
procedures.
• Maintain supplies in patient care areas and assist with basic tasks in specialty service areas.
• Adhere to departmental procedures and internal controls.
• Participate in identifying and addressing training and learning needs within the clinical area.
• Assist in the orientation and induction of new nursing and support staff.
• Demonstrate professional behavior and leadership potential through role modeling.
• Take responsibility for personal development and effective time management, and comply with good
attendance and punctuality.
• Adhere to Uniform Policy and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
• Attend staff meetings and stay informed through internal communications. Remain flexible to
support patient care needs, including floating to other departments as required.
• Wear hospital identification at all times while on duty.
• Perform only procedures within the scope of practice for Nursing Assistants.
OTHER DUTIES:
• The employee, as part of his/her job description shall take part in the activities of any
committee that he/she is assigned by his/her supervisor and is expected to attend all scheduled
meetings. The employee further agrees to be an active participant in assigned activities related to
Doctors Hospital attaining and maintaining Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
• GCSE/CXC or High School equivalent Diploma with 6-12 weeks of CNA training.
• Experience in hospital setting and understanding of hospital operations is preferred
• Clinical nursing education required.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required by start date.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Nursing Assistant is accountable to the Chief Nurse. Secondary reporting will be to his/her
designate.
TRAVEL: None expected.

with dignity and respect.
• Friendly and professional bedside manners.
• Maintains current CPR certification.
• Multitasking skills.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Requires moving and handling; minimum of 15 pounds.
• Requires standing for long periods of time.
• Requires ability to work in fast paced environment.
• Requires flexibility and team work approach. Must be willing to work in any area.
• Requires positive personality and consistent interpersonal skills
• Requires professional dress and appearance. Well-groomed with minimal perfume.
