PhD Research Intern, Efficient media delivery with Media over QUIC (MoQ)

Start: January 2027 Duration: 6 months Location: Stockholm, Sweden This thesis project explores the cutting edge of media streaming by investigating Media over QUIC (MoQ), an emerging IETF protocol designed to overcome the limitations of today's streaming technologies. As the demand for low-latency, high-quality media experiences continues to grow, MoQ promises a unified framework capable of serving a wide range of use cases, from interactive streaming to large-scale broadcast events. The student will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the latest advances in media streaming, and to build upon a solid existing foundation in a professional, industry-leading environment. This project sits at the intersection of network protocol engineering, media systems, and real-world deployment challenges. The core deliverable of this project will be a proof-of-concept implementation utilizing MoQ and an evaluation of the resulting system. By working on this project, the student will: · Gain deep expertise in modern network transport protocols · Develop practical implementation skills by working with real protocol specifications and open-source tooling · Build experience in system evaluation and performance analysis · Get exposure to industry-standard workflows and practices Qualifications: · Currently pursuing a Master’s degree (MSc) in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. · Strong programming skills. Experience in Rust is preferred. · Strong interest in network protocols and video streaming. · Strong analytical, experimental, and communication skills. · Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a research environment.
