On-Site- Bohemia, Long Island, NY

Dayton T. Brown, Inc. is looking for a business-minded attorney who wants to be a true partner to leadership-someone who asks questions, listens, offers practical solutions, and helps work through complex decisions as part of the team. This is an opportunity to grow beyond a traditional legal rule and make a meaningful impact on the business.

In this role, you will apply your negotiation, risk mitigation, counseling, and analytical skills across multiple operational areas. With three distinct divisions-Testing & Engineering, Technical Services, and Mission Systems-DTB offers a diverse, technical, and fast-paced work environment. You will collaborate with division leaders to support decisions and growth, reporting directly to the President.

For the right individual, this position offers a potential path to General Counsel and broader corporate leadership. That growth will be earned through performance, sound judgment, and leadership development, including the ability to ultimately lead Human Resources, Contracts, Security and Compliance.

  • →Human Resources: Work closely with HR on policy development, handbook updates, employment law compliance, employee relations, performance issues, investigations, and other sensitive personnel matters. Build the knowledge and leadership capability needed to potentially assume responsibility for HR over time.
  • →Strategic Advising: Work with management on business decisions and future. Provide practical, solution-oriented guidance on employment law, regulatory compliance, and corporate risk.
  • →Business Development Support: Work alongside proposal teams and division leaders to evaluate terms, resolve legal issues, and support New Business opportunities with government agencies and major aerospace companies.
  • →Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Compliance, Security, Procurement, Accounting, and Sales to support company initiatives and address risks without unnecessary delays. Personally handle day-to-day legal drafting, review, and follow-up.
  • →Contract Review & Negotiation: Review, draft, and negotiate commercial and government-related agreements, including Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), teaming agreements, and subcontracts.
  • You understand the business and translate legal advice into clear, practical recommendations that help the team move forward.

  • You have a calm, approachable style, strong communication skills, and good judgment.
  • You enjoy hands-on work and do not need an assistant or large legal team to get things done.
  • You take initiative, think independently, and balance risk management with business needs.
  • You collaborate across the company, adapt when priorities change, and follow through on commitments.
  • You are interested in growing beyond legal counsel into broader business leadership, including future HR leadership.
