Adult League Official – Softball Umpire (Part-Time)

• Part Time (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), Non-Exempt
• Starts at $26.00-$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
• Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Athletics
• Located at Round Lake Park and Lake Riley Park in Eden Prairie
• 3-12 hours per week, evenings as early as 5:45 pm to as late as 10:30 pm. League play occurs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays. Leagues run late April through early October.

The League Official – Softball Umpire officiates for adult recreation sports league games. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

• →Provides quality, safe, and enjoyable leisure opportunities for all participants.
• →Demonstrates, facilitates, and enforces local league rules and regulations.
• →Promotes fair play, good sportsmanship, and a fun and safe environment for all league participants, players and the general public.
• →While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

• Prior experience in playing softball and/or baseball and basic knowledge of slowpitch softball rules required. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to lift/pull/push/carry up to 30 lbs. Sits, stands, bends, stoops, reaches, runs and walks intermittently. Ability to reach, stand, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch, stop and start running for extended periods of time and avoid obstacles such as hit or thrown balls and players. Close and distant vision, peripheral visions and depth perception. Exposure to dust, loud noises, moving/running participants, and fast moving softballs. Ability to work at least 4 hours in succession.
• Games are played outdoors; may require working in adverse weather conditions at a variety of playing sites.
• Prior umpiring experience preferred. Knowledge and understanding of USSSA and local league rules. Ability to umpire a wide range of skill levels preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications approved.
• Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check, work verification and education verification if applicable.
