GENERAL SUMMARY:
Route Removal Technicians are integral members of the Routesetting department, working closely with the Routesetting team to prepare the facility for a day of setting. Responsibilities include staging work areas, removing routes and boulder problems, washing and sorting holds and volumes, organizing and maintaining routesetting resources and gear, and performing equipment inspections.
This role requires the ability to work at height using rope suspension systems and ladders, lift and move equipment or heavy objects, and execute all preparatory tasks as needed. Team members are expected to identify, minimize, and mitigate hazards by adhering to Edgeworks’ risk management protocols, ensuring a safe environment for themselves and their colleagues.
We are seeking individuals who demonstrate both strong teamwork and the ability to manage tasks independently, contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of our routesetting program.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
GENERAL:
- Arrive on time and get to work in a timely manner
- Take initiative during “down-time” to organize, clean & keep themselves busy
- Accept and execute responsibilities associated with work at height jobs.
- Identify, minimize, and mitigate safety hazards for team members and the community
- Maintain Edgeworks quality standards
ROUTE REMOVAL AND MAINTENANCE:
- Remove 1-3 times per week
- Follow best practices for work area safety and follow all risk management protocols
- Stage zones for removal and setting of both bouldering and rope climbs
- Ensure safe and effective set up of suspension systems
- Remove rope routes and boulder problems efficiently
- Set up, operate, and take down equipment to wash holds, features, and volumes from each reset
- Sort, organize, and maintain routesetting resources, hardware, and gear
- Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of climbing terrain, ropes, routesetting equipment / PPE
- Assist in basic wall maintenance
TEAMWORK AND COMMUNICATION:
- Ability to communicate effectively, empathetically, and in a timely manner with the Routesetting Leadership team and other setters.
- Ability to manage difficult circumstances with a positive attitude
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:
MUST-HAVES:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Passion for climbing and the craft of routesetting
- Ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner
- The mentality of a team player and the ability to follow directions
- Ability to work at height using ladders and suspension systems, or willingness to learn skills
- Experienced and confident top-rope belayer, or willingness to learn skills.
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Experience working at height
- Experience working with hand-held power tools
- Ability to lead climb and lead belay
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
