Biomedical Equipment Technician

EFW Radiology is currently seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technologist to join our team and contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care!

EFW Radiology owns and operates twelve community-based clinics providing Diagnostic Imaging, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Pain Management services.

• Completion of a two- or three-year college diploma or a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering technology, electrical or electronics engineering technology, or an equivalent program, from an accredited institution.
• Minimum one year of experience servicing, testing, calibrating or maintaining medical imaging or biomedical equipment.
• Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and best practices relating to imaging equipment, radiation safety and protection, including Health Canada Safety Codes and the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code.
• Strong mechanical and electromechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and with equipment ticketing and asset tracking systems.
• Certification, or eligibility for certification, as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.) with ASET is an asset.
• Field experience servicing imaging equipment from multiple manufacturers is an asset.
• Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize a varied workload, and exercise sound judgment in equipment-related decisions.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and feedback to the Quality Assurance Coordinator and Quality Management Manager on equipment issues.
• Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to collaborate with clinical staff and physicians.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling patient, employee and organizational information.
• Language of work: English.
• Work is performed at multiple EFW clinic sites; travel between sites during the workday is sometime required
• The role requires physical handling and moving equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Hours include occasional evenings and weekends, with overtime paid in accordance with the Alberta Employment Standards Code if applicable. Flexibility with short-notice shift changes is required.
• A satisfactory criminal record check is required prior to commencement.

• Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose, test and analyze the performance of diagnostic imaging equipment and ancillary electronic components, assemblies and systems used directly for patient examinations across assigned modalities.
• Conduct scheduled performance and quality control testing in accordance with approved maintenance programs, including semi-annual X-ray performance testing (kVp accuracy, mAs linearity, timer accuracy), standard interval testing of ancillary equipment, and annual testing of protective lead aprons and gloves, including measurement, repair or replacement as required.
• Perform ultrasound probe quality control and condition verification, including image uniformity checks and identification of dropout, artifacts and performance degradation, and document results to support diagnostic image quality and patient safety.
• Conduct electrical safety testing on probes and related accessories to confirm safe clinical use.
• Inspect, test, adjust and evaluate equipment and components to ensure conformance with manufacturer specifications and tolerances, and calibrate equipment and instruments in accordance with technical manuals and written instructions.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting support for equipment faults, perform repairs across multiple modalities and manufacturers, and coordinate on-site service engineers for unscheduled repairs as required.
• Install, maintain and decommission electrical and electronic imaging equipment and systems, and conduct or support commissioning and operational verification following installation.
• Conduct condition and safety audits of clinical equipment to verify compliance with operational requirements, Health Canada Safety Codes and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code requirements.
• Compile operational and test data and prepare technical service reports, maintenance records and testing documentation, and track completion through service report systems.
• Provide technical guidance and feedback to the Quality Assurance Coordinator and Quality Management Manager on equipment performance, safety and replacement.
• Support equipment planning and installation requirements, including scheduling of installations, removals and application changes with modality leaders, and coordination of service calls with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain equipment, parts and supply inventory using inventory management software, including parts ordering and tracking, and conduct routine audits of ultrasound probes and accessory equipment.

We offer full-time position with wage of $37.50 - $49.50 per hour with 40 hours working schedule per week.

Your work location for this position will be mainly at 3883 Front Street SE, Calgary, AB T3M 2J6.
