As a Specialist - Animal Care & Clinical Operations you will provide technical direction and supervision to animal care by collaborating with the team to ensure smooth study conduct. The person in this role will work closely with the animal care team, site veterinarians, as well as the study execution teams. Additionally, the individual will be expected to provide innovative solutions within a positive and motivating work environment.
- Supervise personnel and activities in the assigned area to produce high-quality products and results. Prioritize and schedule daily animal care work required to maintain efficiency as well as follow-up to ensure work is completed.
- Communicate to management progress of the department, problems, employee actions, new ideas, and all other pertinent information.
- Keen understanding of facility set up and design to facilitate the completion of various study types across multiple species.
- Demonstrated experience in managing facilities, including understanding maintenance needs.
- Train clinical personnel in proper sanitization techniques, biosecurity, equipment use, animal husbandry and handling for various species.
- Demonstrated understanding of study support activities allowing for flexibility to assist GXP and non-GXP studies as needed.
- Work effectively with site R&D and QC clinical teams and external collaborators to achieve overall Elanco deliverables.
- Make recommendations to hire/terminate personnel and discipline personnel as needed according to policies and procedures.
- Requisitions purchase of operating supplies and recommends purchase of new or replacement equipment.
- Development and revision of SOPs supporting animal care facility utilization and maintenance.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of supplies required (animal feed, cleaning equipment, chemicals, and PPE).
- Coach care staff and consult with peers, cross-functional team members and third parties on multiple aspects of study preparation and conduct.
- Create a positive work environment that is aligned with company objectives.
- Identify and utilize methods to deliver individual objectives in a high quality, timely, cost-effective manner.
- Demonstrate high levels of adaptability, flexibility and learning agility.
- Bachelor of Science with 3+ years relevant clinical experience
- Experience with animal handling in a clinical research environment
- Knowledge of word processing (Word) and spreadsheets (Excel)
- Advanced ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- AALAS – LAT (American Association of Laboratory Animal Science – Laboratory Animal Technician) certification
