Afternoon Lead Teacher – Jewish Early Childhood Center (Infant–Pre-K) | Stoughton, MA
About Us
Shaloh House has served the South Area Jewish community in Stoughton, MA since 1988. Our Reggio Emilia-inspired program is part of the global Chabad Outreach network. We're a small, close-knit school (capacity 51 children, infants through Pre-K/Kindergarten) where teachers and families know each other by name.
Position Overview
We're hiring a Lead Teacher for our afternoon/closing shift, working across our infant through Pre-K classroom. We're looking for someone confident enough to hold a room without needing every child to like every decision, and curious enough to keep learning — about child development, about our community, and about the kids in front of them.
You do not need prior Jewish education experience or a completed early childhood degree to apply. If you're patient, steady under pressure, and willing to learn on the job, we'll train you toward Massachusetts teacher certification while you work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead classroom activities and transitions
  • Redirect behavior by telling children what to do instead of only what not to do
  • Respond calmly to children
  • Change diapers and get down to children's physical level as part of daily infant and toddler care
  • Bring genuine curiosity to the day — trying new sensory materials, going outside, following a child's question
  • Maintain classroom structure around meals, naps, and transitions while treating each child's needs as distinct
  • If not Jewish yourself, engage respectfully with our traditions and holiday observances, and be comfortable saying "I don't know, but I'd like to learn"
Qualifications
  • MA Lead Teacher certification preferred; candidates with a Teacher certification (or willingness to complete one)
  • Comfortable and willing to change diapers and provide hands-on infant/toddler care
  • Curious and coachable; open to feedback and continued learning
  • Comfortable working in a Jewish educational environment (does not need to be Jewish)
  • Willing to adhere to a modest dress code: skirts/dresses at or below the knee with leggings or shorts underneath for shorter skirts, at minimum short sleeves, no low necklines
Compensation & Benefits
  • $20–$25/hour, based on experience and certification
  • Paid time off: 2 weeks in years 1–2, increasing to 3 weeks in year 3+
  • All Jewish holidays off, including 9+ days for Passover and the first/last two days of Sukkot
  • Major national holidays off (Labor Day, December 25th, July 4th, Veterans Day, and others)
  • Discount on childcare tuition for staff with children enrolled
  • Meals/snacks provided during shifts
Schedule
  • Priority shift: 12:00 PM–6:00 PM, Monday–Friday (Friday hours end at 3:00 PM)
  • Flexible to expand into a full-time role (as early as 9:00 AM start) for the right candidate
  • 12-month, year-round position
