The Opportunity  

 

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) seeks a dynamic, student-centered, and forward-thinking Academic Advisor I to provide visionary leadership 


The Academic Advisor I provides comprehensive academic advising and student support to help students successfully progress from admission through graduation. This position advises students on degree requirements, academic policies, course selection, registration, graduation planning, transfer credit, program changes, and academic success strategies.


The Academic Advisor I develops individualized degree plans, monitors student progress, and proactively communicates with students through email, phone, text/chat, virtual meetings, and in-person appointments. The position supports student retention by assisting at-risk students, addressing academic and enrollment concerns, coordinating with faculty and campus partners, and connecting students with appropriate university resources.


Essential responsibilities include:

  • Provide academic advising related to degree requirements, curriculum, prerequisites, academic policies, graduation requirements, and degree progress.
  • Develop personalized academic plans and recommend courses for current and future terms.
  • Monitor student progress and proactively outreach to new, enrolled, inactive, at-risk, and graduating students.
  • Advise students on academic warning, probation, conditional admission, academic reset opportunities, and other academic success resources.
  • Assist with program changes, minors, catalog changes, curriculum waivers, course drops, transfer coursework, graduation applications, and updated advising reports.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, academic departments, and university support offices.
  • Assist students with university systems and platforms, including Campus Solutions, Salesforce, ERNIE, Canvas, Imaging, and SharePoint.
  • Maintain accurate student records and document advising interactions with detailed notes.
  • Evaluate student records and prerequisite knowledge to support appropriate course enrollment.
  • Manage and monitor an assigned caseload of approximately 350–400 students.
  • Support student retention, registration, engagement, and persistence initiatives.
  • Prepare and complete quarterly reports and meet individual registration and advising goals.
  • Provide coverage and support for student caseloads when needed.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

  • Generous Time Off: Enjoy up to 18 days of paid leave in your first year, including 3 days granted upon hire and 15 days accrued throughout the year. You'll also receive 9+ paid holidays, including the day after Thanksgiving and the week between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.

Requirements

 Master’s degree from an accredited institution.

  • One to three years of related work experience, preferably in academic advising, student services, higher education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of effective academic advising practices.
  • Experience using proactive or innovative approaches to support college students and improve student persistence and retention.
  • Ability to interpret academic records, degree requirements, curriculum information, and institutional policies.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make appropriate decisions when addressing student concerns.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and university departments.
  • Ability to communicate professionally through email, phone, text/chat, virtual meetings, and in-person appointments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use university systems and advising technology.
  • Appreciative Advising certification or related training.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Salesforce, or similar student advising and case-management systems.
  • Experience working with student retention, registration, academic recovery, or student success initiatives.
  • Experience advising a diverse college student population in a higher education setting.
