Join a Challenger

At EQ, we're remaking banking so every Canadian gets ahead, every day. Serving nearly 4 million Canadians from coast to coast, we offer a wide variety of financial services from banking and lending, to trust and credit union solutions.

We've been at this since 1970, challenging the conventions of traditional banking with smarter, faster, and more connected financial experiences.

What's kept us moving?  The people behind it all: challengers who ask better questions, push back on old assumptions, and look for a better way forward.

If you're driven to help reshape how banking works for Canadians and the businesses that power our economy, this could be your next big opportunity.

We can’t wait to get to know you!

The Work

Reporting to the Director, Organization Design, the Senior Manager, Organization Design & Operating Model is responsible for independently leading significant organization design and operating model workstreams and developing recommendations for senior leaders with minimal day-to-day oversight. The role partners with business leaders, Human Resources Business Partners and transformation teams to translate strategy into practical organizational solutions that improve organizational effectiveness, decision-making, accountability and business performance.

The Senior Manager leads complex work from diagnosis through implementation, including organizational assessments, future-state organization design, operating model design, governance, decision rights, workforce and capability planning, and implementation planning. The role requires deep technical expertise, sound judgment, strong facilitation and the ability to navigate ambiguity while balancing strategic thinking with practical execution.

  • Lead end-to-end organization design initiatives, including current-state assessment, design principles, future-state structure, role and accountability design, options assessment, recommendations and implementation planning.
  • Lead operating model design and refinement, including capabilities, governance forums, decision rights, accountabilities, interactions, operating rhythms and ways of working.
  • Partner with business and Human Resources leaders to understand strategic priorities, diagnose organizational challenges and develop practical solutions that enable business outcomes.
  • Conduct organizational diagnostics and workforce analysis related to structure, spans and layers, role clarity, capability requirements, organizational health and workforce effectiveness.
  • Design and facilitate interviews, workshops and working sessions with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to gather input, challenge assumptions, align on trade-offs and enable decisions.
  • Develop clear, evidence-based options, recommendations, business cases and executive-ready materials using qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Assess the organizational and workforce implications of enterprise transformation, operating model change, integration, restructuring, technology, automation and evolving business priorities.
  • Support strategic workforce and capability planning by identifying future-state capabilities, roles, capacity needs and organizational implications.
  • Develop transition roadmaps, implementation plans, readiness assessments and risk mitigation approaches for approved organization and operating model changes.
  • Independently manage assigned workstreams, deliverables, stakeholders, risks, dependencies and timelines, escalating material issues and decisions when appropriate.
  • Build trusted relationships across the Bank and provide subject matter expertise on organization design, operating models and organizational effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development and consistent application of enterprise organization design methods, tools, templates and standards, and share relevant external practices and emerging trends.
  • Undergraduate degree in business, human resources, organizational psychology, organizational behaviour or a related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in organization design, operating model design, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, management consulting, transformation or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated specialist-level expertise in organization design and operating model design, including organizational structures, capabilities, governance, decision rights, accountability frameworks, role design and ways of working.
  • Experience independently leading complex organization design and/or operating model workstreams from assessment through recommendation and implementation planning.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to examine complex situations from multiple perspectives, identify underlying issues and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Sound judgment and mindful decision-making, with the ability to make well-reasoned recommendations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments while considering risk, feasibility and stakeholder impacts.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to understand interdependencies and downstream impacts across functions, processes, technology, governance and talent.
  • Advanced facilitation, communication and presentation skills, including the ability to lead senior stakeholder discussions, communicate complex ideas clearly and constructively challenge thinking.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and align diverse groups without relying on formal authority.
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability and ability to manage multiple complex priorities and deliverables with limited direction.
  • Working knowledge of workforce analytics and organizational modelling tools and methods. Experience with OrgVue or equivalent tools is an asset.
  • Experience in financial services, a regulated environment, management consulting, large-scale transformation or merger and acquisition integration is an asset.
