  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Veterinary clinical experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Schedule:
  • 4x10-hour shifts 8a-6p, Monday through Friday
    • Day off determined by PTO and Time off requests
  • Off on weekends and holidays
  • After-hours compensation provided for emergent surgeries, as determined by the schedule

The Neurology Veterinary Assistant provides direct clinical support to neurologists and licensed veterinary technicians while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and clear client education. This role focuses on assisting with diagnostics, procedures, treatments, and discharges while ensuring patient safety, workflow efficiency, and accurate medical support within the Neurology service.
  • Provide hands-on support to DVMs and LVTs during examinations, treatments, procedures, and anesthesia events.
  • Assist with patient restraint for neurological exams, imaging, venipuncture, catheter placement, and treatments.
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing including bloodwork and sample preparation under supervision.
  • Prepare treatment areas and procedure suites with appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with surgical and diagnostic procedure setup, monitoring support, and cleanup.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and communicate patient status to team members.
  • Provide treatments to hospitalized patients and outpatients awaiting discharge as directed by DVM or LVT.
  • Monitor patient comfort, neurologic status, and safety and report changes promptly.
  • Ensure patients are clean, comfortable, and positioned appropriately to prevent complications.
  • Assist with patient transfers, mobility support, and safe handling.
  • Prepare instruments, supplies, and monitoring equipment for procedures and surgery.
  • Assist with patient preparation including clipping, cleaning, positioning, and transport.
  • Ensure procedure areas are cleaned, restocked, and reset for the next case.
  • Prepare patients and paperwork for discharge.
  • Review discharge instructions with clients and provide clear, accurate clinical education as directed by medical staff.
  • Demonstrate medication administration, home care techniques, and monitoring instructions when appropriate.
  • Answer general client questions within scope and refer medical questions to DVM or LVT as needed.
  • Restock supplies and assist with inventory monitoring.
  • Follow direction from supervising DVMs and LVTs.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, hospital safety, and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in training sessions and departmental meetings.
  • Patient-centered care focus.
