Intern, Wireless Operations

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns, and more

Intern Description:
• Participate in the configuration, commissioning, and alignment of Nokia 6 GHz and 11 GHz MPR microwave radio equipment. Support microwave path testing, performance verification, and preventative maintenance activities while developing an understanding of wireless backhaul technologies and network architecture.
• Assist with the provisioning, installation, and testing of Private LTE devices, including SIM cards, modems, routers, and associated network equipment. Support device activation, connectivity verification, and basic troubleshooting efforts.
• Support the configuration, programming, installation, and testing of Land Mobile Radio equipment, including mobile and portable radio units. Assist with system performance validation and inventory management activities.
• Contributes to the deployment, testing, and ongoing support of the Telenium SNMP-based alarm monitoring and device performance management system. Assist in monitoring network health, validating alarm functionality, collecting performance data, and helping identify potential system issues.
• Work closely with engineering and field operations personnel to support wireless communications projects, perform field testing, document system configurations, and assist with maintaining accurate technical records and network documentation.
• Develop practical experience in wireless communications, network monitoring, RF systems, utility communications infrastructure, and industry best practices while supporting the reliable operation of Evergy's mission-critical communications networks.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Candidates must be enrolled in a university or technical program in one of the following IT Networking, IT Telecommunications, or related IT programs.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
• Must be dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented and have excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
• Must possess the ability to work and communicate effectively with other company personnel.
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and databases preferred.
• Must be able to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently and effectively in high stress environment.

Working Conditions:
Position will require traveling within Evergy’s territory, working in Offices, Power Plants and occasional visits to substations.
