Laser Swiss Team Lead

Position Summary

The Department Lead supports daily operations and guides employees across all shifts to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals. The Lead trains employees, helps resolve production and quality issues, operates equipment as needed, and keeps job records accurate. The Lead also works with the Manager and other departments to address personnel and operational concerns.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to department employees.
• Monitor hourly and daily performance against safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and other department goals.
• Help employees solve problems and remove obstacles to meeting production targets.
• Maintain Kanbans so supplies, consumables, and equipment are available when needed.
• Identify training needs and train employees on all shifts.
• Operate production equipment as needed. Review blueprints and select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for machining work.
• Work with Manufacturing, Engineering, Production, and other departments to share information and resolve issues.
• Help the MRB team investigate nonconformances and recommend corrective actions. Assist with corrective and preventive actions as needed.
• Report personnel concerns to management and serve as a point of contact for department employees.
• Build effective working relationships across shifts and departments.
• Use equipment, staffing, and other resources effectively to support department efficiency and productivity.
• Meet established quality, efficiency, and effectiveness standards.
• Ensure required documentation is complete and employees clock in and out of jobs correctly in the ERP system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• At least three years of manufacturing experience in a machine shop environment.
• Experience in an ISO/FDA environment preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height stands, thread gages, dial indicators, gage pins, radius gages, optical comparators, and vision machines.
• Knowledge of the company’s quality system.
• Proficiency with Windows-based computers and Microsoft Excel.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Ability to troubleshoot quality and production issues.
• Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, maintain a sense of urgency, and work under pressure.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate professionally and constructively with employees and other departments.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Work Environment

The position is performed in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment with moderate noise. Employees may be exposed to distracting noise, moving mechanical parts, coolants, and oils.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly sit, stand, and walk; use hands to handle tools, objects, and controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Have close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Be able to sit for up to 12 hours per day, perform repetitive movements, and bend and twist.
