We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Halifax team. As our pipeline of new and ongoing projects continues to expand, you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on high-profile regional projects, playing a critical part in delivering specialized engineering solutions focused on water/wastewater, landfills, and industrial manufacturing projects. You will act as a technical leader, managing project deliverables and balancing workload across Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and our Northern regions.
This is a new position and can be based out of our Halifax office. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities
~1 min read- Lead electrical engineering design with a core focus on power distribution, motor controls, instrumentation, and SCADA/PLC systems for water/wastewater treatment facilities, solid waste/landfill infrastructure, and industrial manufacturing projects.
- Manage complex electrical project deliverables, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless execution of workloads across our Ontario, Atlantic Canada, and Northern region portfolios.
- Play a vital role in knowledge transfer and succession planning. Mentor, coach, and provide technical direction to junior and mid-level team members across various regions to accelerate internal staff development.
- Perform peer reviews, testing, and verification of electrical systems to ensure all designs meet strict quality guidelines and applicable standards (Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, UL, NFPA, etc.).
- Coordinate closely with utilities, equipment suppliers, contractors, and clients to drive project success from conceptual design through construction.
- Contribute to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations
- Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request
- Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
- Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
- Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
Requirements
~1 min read- A degree in Electrical Engineering and registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Nova Scotia. (Additional licensure in Ontario or other regions is an asset).
- At least 5 years of design experience in infrastructure (water/wastewater) electrical systems required
- A minimum of 8 years of related professional experience.
- Proven experience in the preparation and design of Low and Medium Voltage Electrical Systems including:
- Electrical Equipment physical arrangement, selections, sizing and locating
- One line diagrams and engineering studies for equipment application, including metering, protection and control
- Low and Medium Voltage Power design, instrumentation, and control equipment specifications
- Design calculations such as load analysis and calculations, Voltage drop, equipment sizing, bus/cable tray support loading, conduit and wire sizing.
- Emergency Power generator sizing
- Grounding and bonding
- Short Circuit, Arc Flash, and Relay Coordination calculations and design.
- SCADA systems and related control and instrumentation design
- Overhead and underground electrical design
- Motor Control centre design
- Lighting design and calculations
- Communication systems (Data, telephone, internet), security, access control, and fire alarm design
- Proven experience in the preparation of project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation
- Demonstrated abilities in the delivery of accurate and thorough designs that meet industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices with excellent constructability
- Demonstrated success in project management and business development various types of projects
- Proven experience in the review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability including Canadian Electrical Code, CSA codes and regulations, UL, National Building codes, NFPA, and others.
- Coordination with various power and communications utilities and companies for successful completion and connection of power and communication lines to existing and new networks.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining complete project documentation with respect to design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information
- Demonstrated success leading teams of technical professionals on multi-disciplinary projects
- Extensive experience in electrical power and distribution design, fault protection and protective relay design for power utilities is a plus
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with both verbal and written communication
