Summary

Reporting to the President & CEO of Old Republic Commercial Risk and located in the Blue Bell, PA office, the Senior VP, Chief Claims Officer will have responsibility for managing the performance and productivity of ORCR's workers compensation and casualty claims operation.

The role ensures appropriate claim outcomes through consistent execution of claims management best practices, compliance with regulatory requirements, and achievement of department and corporate objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior leader who translates corporate strategy into department priorities, advises executive leadership on claims performance and emerging risks, and builds alignment across functions to achieve business objectives.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-range claims strategies and policies and annual operating goals and objectives that are aligned with corporate priorities, customer needs, and market conditions.
  • Lead corporate and field claims operations and maximize staff performance by ensuring effective supervision, coaching, development, accountability, and recognition.
  • Establish and oversee disciplined reserving practices that produce timely and accurate case reserves, including clear accountability, consistent reviews, prompt recognition of changes in claim exposure, and effective management oversight.
  • Implement and monitor claim policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with operating and parent company guidelines to achieve appropriate claim outcomes and quality standards.
  • Creates a collaborative relationship with parent company Chief Claim Officer so that when questions or issues arise, feels comfortable early on strategizing with same. Complies with all parent company reporting guidelines. Ensure that staff meets prescribed customer service standards.
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of claims trends and results, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. Engage with internal and external auditors and examiners as needed.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to improve operational efficiency, strengthen data and analytics capabilities, and implement technology solutions that enhance claim quality, productivity, customer service, and financial performance. Maintain appropriate staffing levels in conjunction with workloads.
  • Creates a work environment conducive to employee engagement and retention.
  • Work closely with colleagues in other departments, including but not limited to Underwriting, Managed Care, Client Services, and Risk Control, on initiatives designed to drive positive results, effectiveness, and profitability.
  • Communicate claims priorities, organizational changes, performance results, and feedback clearly and consistently across leadership, management, and employee groups.
  • Monitors and analyzes significant legal developments and legislative changes.
  • Communicates conclusions and recommendations to staff and other stakeholders.
  • Identifies and addresses technical education and training, and leadership development needs.
  • Develops and manages the department's overall operating budget, ensuring that all financial and efficiency goals are being met. Align annual budgets with longer term plans for the department.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, and apply knowledge of compliance policies, procedures, standards, and laws applicable to the responsibilities of this position. Maintain a strong compliance and quality assurance culture within the segment.
  • Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of multi-jurisdictional, multi-line commercial claims experience, including recent workers' compensation experience and at least five years in a corporate home office executive claims leadership role with a national or large regional carrier. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Professional designations desired (CPCU, ARM, AIC, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance, specifically workers' compensation, claim administration, and litigation management.
  • Experience with high exposure and complex workers compensation and casualty claims.
  • Previous claims service management experience with a proven record of achieving superior customer service and successful claims outcomes.
  • Demonstrable track record in influencing and executing strategy.
  • Transformational leadership experience including implementing technology-enabled solutions, driving operational efficiencies, and leading change that improves employee engagement and the customer experience while delivering measurable business results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with executives and customers.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a team.
  • Prior project leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives effectively.
  • Some travel is required.
